Glass properties and applications

The absorption spectra of thin layers of the non-cubic alkaline earth halides BaCl2, BaBr2, BaI2, SrBr2, BaFCl, BaFBr, BaFI, SrFCl, SrFBr, and of the cubic SrCl2 are measured in the vacuum ultraviolet up to 10 eV. For the mixed halides additionally the reflection spectra of single crystals are measured. Halogen doublets are found as in the alkali halides. The absorption spectra of the noncubic simple halides and of the corresponding mixed halides are almost identical. Die Absorptionsspektren von dünnen Schichten der nichtkubischen Erdalkalihalogenide BaCl2, BaBr2, BaJ2, SrBr2, BaFCl, BaFBr, BaFJ, SrFCl, SrFBr sowie des kubischen SrCl2 werden im Vakuum-UV bis 10 eV gemessen. Bei den Mischhalogeniden werden zusätzlich die Reflexionsspektren von Einkristallen gemessen. Halogendubletts wie in den Alkalihalogeniden werden gefunden. Die Absorptionsspektren der nichtkubischen einfachen Halogenide und die der entsprechenden Mischhalogenide sind nahezu identisch.
