Resumo

Pancreatic atrophy following pancreatic duct ligation in dogs was accompanied by increased gastric acid secretion and increased levels of serum gastrin. Neither of these changes occurred when pancreatic duct ligation failed to induce pancreatic atrophy. Intraduodenal administration of hydrolyzed fat was equally effective in inhibiting the pentagastrin stimulated gastric acid secretion before and following pancreatic duct ligation. Antrectomy prior to pancreatic duct ligation prevented the development of both gastric hypersecretion and hypergastrinemia.
