Resumo

Some dentures obey the ideal desires of prosthodontists and merely “settle” into a closer apposition to the soft tissues. Other dentures exhibit migratory tendencies and assume positions that are not intended by either the dentist or the patient. This study shows the use of cephalometrics in establishing a scientific basis for determining the phenomenon of denture migration. A basis for differentiating between settling and migration is proposed and demonstrated, and quantitative data are given for measuring the direction and magnitude of the migration.
