ResumoThis paper reports the first micro level information on households' reported adjustments in behavior - averting actions - to reduce the risk of exposure to pollutants. The findings are based on a survey of households in suburban Boston and their actions to avoid hazardous wastes. Probit analyses of the factors influencing decisions to undertake these actions indicate that attitude toward hazardous waste risks, confidence in local officials responsible for the problem and information are important determinants of their decisions.
