Resumo

Milk fat, solids-not-fat, protein, and lactose were determined in milk from normal milking, followed by four successive intravenous oxytocic injections at 20-minute intervals.Milk fat per cent increased through the first oxytocic sample, then decreased to approximately the fat content of milk obtained by normal milking procedures.Solids-not-fat, protein, and lactose were all significantly (P < 0.01) lower in milk removed after the injection of oxytociu than in the sanlples taken during norreal milking.Milk yield approached a constant level with repeated injections of oxytocin, indicating a constant rate of secretion.Rate of secretion approached the rate needed to synthesize the milk produced daily by these cows.
