ResumoIn vitro studies with rat femora and mouse embryonic radii showed a reduced uptake of radioproline into the bone collagen when p-aminosalicylic acid (approximately 10-2 M) and acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin; approximately 10-3 M) were added to the incubation medium. Autoradiographic examination of rat femora from p-amino-salicylate treated animals also indicated reduced H3-proline uptake by the osteoblasts compared to control animals. Electron microscopic examination of metaphyseal bone from p-aminosalicylate treated and control rats showed cytological alteration of the osteoblasts after p-aminosalicylate treatment.
