ResumoMacrostylophora abazhouensis,sp.n.Diagnosis.The new species is unique in the following characters:(1) the distal half of crochet being trapezoidal in shape (fig.3);(2) process of clasper dilated at apex with its width larger than and sometimes 11/2 times that of the movable process on level at the anterior projection;(3) movable process elongate-triangular with acuminate apex, slender upper portion, wavy posterior margin and quite convex ventero-basal margin which is deeply concave near the postero-ventral corner;(4) ventral margin of clasper with a sharp conical process (Fig.1).Other male salient characters are:antepygidial projection absent;manubrium with a dorsal projection and its apex situated much anteriorly beyond the apex of the apodeme of IX T.;distal arm of IX St.without spiniform bristle.hardly distinguishable from other species.Type data.Holotype allorype and paratypes 6(2.1-2.9 mm.long) and 11 (2.1-3.2 mm.) collected in June,1961 ex Marmota himalayana from Ruo-ergai,north Sichuan,China.Holotype, allotype and 2,5 paratypes deposited in the collection of the Academy of Military Medical Sciences;remaining paratypes in the Abazhou Health and Epidemic Disease Prevention Station,Sichuan Province.DISCUSSION OF MACROSTYLOPHORA IN CHINAAt present 11 species of the genus are known in China. There are altogether in the world 9 Palaearctic species of which 6 are from China, and M.hebeiensis has extended the north limit of distribution of the genus to 40.4°N,whereas the new species is distributied about 33.6°N.It supports Traub's supposition that the genus had its origin in the Palaearctic region and is flourishing in the Oriental region. As to affinity, the new species is closely related to M.hebeiensis Liu,Wu and Chang,1979 and the authors enumerate quite a number of structural characters common to both species. It is interesting to note that these characters are in the main more primitive than those of the remaining Palaearctic species. In other words, these two species are examples and evidences of Traub's supposition.Among the Macrostylophora of China, the two species namely M.aeretesites Li,Chen and Wei,1974 and M.bispiniforma Li,Hsieh and Yang,1976 are so far the most specialized ones in China as well as in the world. They bear an antepygidial process and their movable process is provided with a big ventroposterior prolongation which reminds us of the somewhat similar structure present in Amphalius-an example of parallelism. In addition, the distal arm of IX St.bears a few very specialized and peculiar-shaped spiniform bistles at the ventral margin. With regard to host relations, the Chinese species are found in 4 genera of Sciuridae (Callosciums,Tamiops,Sciurotamias and Dremomys) and 3 genera of Petauristidae (Aeretes,Hyfapetes and Trogopterus). They are also occassionally found and rodents other than Sciuridae as well as Tupaiidae;these are certainly not true hosts. For example, the new species in this paper was collected a coniferous forest steppe ex Marmota himalayana, which is an occassional host.
