This article aims to highlight the main arguments that sought to justify the incorporation and legitimization of Urban Regeneration in the urban policy agenda in Brazil. It shows how the convergence between different and even conflicting propositions related to urban development provided ideological support to the construction of discourses in which urban regeneration is portrayed as beneficial to society as a whole, and how recent international ideas on urban development were incorporated in urban ...

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the decline of cognitive functions such as learning and memory. Scientific society has proposed some non-pharmacological interventions, among which photobiomodulation has gained prominence for its beneficial effects. Therefore, we investigated, through systematic review, the therapeutic potential of photobiomodulation in AD.Methods: This systematic review was registered under the number CRD42019128416 in the International Prospective Record ...

Abstract Objectives The cardiac form of Chagas disease is evidenced by a progressive cardiac inflammation that leads to myocarditis, fibrosis and electrocardiographic (ECG) conduction abnormalities. Considering these characteristics, the aim of this study was to prospectively evaluate the early ECG changes in dogs that were experimentally inoculated with Benznidazole (Bz)‐susceptibly (Berenice‐78) and Bz‐resistant (VL‐10, and AAS) Trypanosoma cruzi strains and, later, evaluate the efficacy of Bz treatment ...

The corrosion of laser marked M340 martensitic stainless steel for biomedical applications was investigated using the scanning vibrating electrode technique (SVET) under simultaneous polarization and cyclic voltammetry in a 0.1 M NaCl solution. The laser marking greatly increases the active dissolution of the affected region and decreases the pitting potential due to Cr loss by volatilization and oxidation on the laser-melted zone. Laser marking also increases cathodic currents on the formed oxide ...

The present study investigated the effect of an aerobic exercise bout associated with a high-carbohydrate (CHO) meal on plasma levels of acylated ghrelin and hunger sensation. Eight healthy males performed an exercise (ET) and a control (CT) trial. In ET, participants performed a 60-min cycling exercise (∼70% of maximal oxygen uptake) after consuming a high-CHO meal. In the CT, participants remained at rest throughout the whole period after consuming the high-CHO meal. Hunger sensation was assessed and ...

Aging is often accompanied by exacerbated activation of cell death-related signaling pathways and decreased energy metabolism. We hypothesized that transcranial near-infrared laser may increase intracellular signaling pathways beneficial to aging brains, such as those that regulate brain cell proliferation, apoptosis, and energy metabolism. To test this hypothesis, we investigated the expression and activation of intracellular signaling proteins in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus of aged rats ( ...

Trypanosoma cruzi P21 is a protein secreted by the parasite that plays biological roles directly involved in the progression of Chagas disease. The recombinant protein (rP21) demonstrates biological properties, such as binding to CXCR4 receptors in macrophages, chemotactic activity of immune cells, and inhibiting angiogenesis. This study aimed to verify the effects of rP21 interaction with CXCR4 from non-tumoral cells (MCF-10A), and triple-negative breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231). Our data showed ...

Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a common event in organ transplantation, being implicated as a potential contributor for the development of chronic allograft nephropathy. There are new evidences showing a tissue inflammatory response following renal IRI. Cyclooxygenases (COX) 1 and 2 can be detected in tissue submitted to IRI and may have impact on organ function outcome. We evaluated the role of COX inhibition on the renal tissue damage that follows IRI. Mice were submitted to 45 min of renal ...
