Solar energy has enormous potential in many areas of industrial activity in Brazil, since much of the country has high levels of sustained solar insolation. Unfortunately, there are few industries that use solar energy for water heating even though some industrial processes need water at temperatures that could be easily obtained from flat plate collectors. This paper uses a numerical simulation to study the technical and financial viability of a solar water heating system for a hospital laundry ...

Temperature plays a critical role in regulating body mechanisms and indicating inflammatory processes. Local temperature increments above 42 °C are shown to kill cancer cells in tumorous tissue, leading to the development of nanoparticle-mediated thermo-therapeutic strategies for fighting oncological diseases. Remarkably, these therapeutic effects can occur without macroscopic temperature rise, suggesting localized nanoparticle heating, and minimizing side effects on healthy tissues. Nanothermometry ...

Effective monitoring of non-indigenous seaweeds and combatting their effects relies on a solid confirmation of the non-indigenous status of the respective species. We critically analysed the status of presumed non-indigenous seaweed species reported from the Mediterranean Sea, the Northeast Atlantic Ocean and Macaronesia, resulting in a list of 140 species whose non-indigenous nature is undisputed.
