The effect of water content (0.5%, 1%, 2%, 5%, 10% y 20 V%) in E95 blend (5 V% gasoline – 95 V% ethanol) on the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) susceptibility of X-52 carbon steel was investigated. Slow strain rate tests (SSRT) coupled with electrochemical noise measurements (ECN) were carried out using a strain rate of 1 X 10-6 s-1. In general, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations on fracture surfaces showed a ductile behavior. However, secondary cracking was only observed for specimens exposed ...

Polyaniline colloids were prepared by enzymatic polymerization using chitosan and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) as steric stabilizers. The resulting nanoparticles undergo flocculation by changing the pH or temperature of the aqueous dispersions. The environmentally responsive behavior of these colloids contrasts with that of polyaniline colloids synthesized using poly(vinyl alcohol) as the steric stabilizer. The colloid size was a function of the steric stabilizers and ranged from approximately 50 ...

This research demonstrates that a nylon nanofiber (NNF) mat can be an effective mechanical reinforcement to polyaniline (PANI) thin films. Nanofibers of ca. 250 nm diameter were produced by electrospinning of a nylon 6 solution in formic acid. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the solution impregnation method utilized was effective to embed the nanofibers into the PANI matrix. The effectiveness of NNFs as a mechanical reinforcement of a PANI thin film was assessed via dynamic mechanical analysis ...

A novel library of diverse alcohols was synthesized by metal-free couplings of diazoalkanes derived from p -toluenesulfonylhydrazones to water under reflux and microwave conditions, in high yields. In addition, this protocol was successfully applied in the synthesis of deuterium-labeled alcohols using deuterium oxide.

The learning style is characterized by the preferences that the student is acquiring throughout his life and with the interaction in the environment in which he develops. As a traditional method to identify the learning style, the application of questionnaires is carried out; however, they may present inaccurate results due to lack of interest in answering the questionnaires. Currently, there are automatic methods to identify the learning style as the observation of the student’s behavior, while ...

In alpine forests, the impact of warming differs at the upper and lower extremes of the elevation gradient causing trees to compensate through different adaptive mechanisms. The objective was to retrospectively evaluate the radial growth response to recent interannual climate variation in Pinus hartwegii trees growing at the extremes of their elevational gradient on two volcanic mountains in central Mexico (La Malinche and Nevado de Toluca). Increment cores collected from 174 P. hartwegii trees were ...

J. B. Miller considered orders in strictly real Banach algebras. The aim of this paper is to extend the basic results about the natural ordering to strictly real Hausdorff m-convex ones.In this frame, one is led to put the additional condition that they are Q-algebras, which is, anyway, satisfied in the Banach case. The results about the associated order are also valid in this framework but they are not included here.

Let $X$ be a completely regular Hausdorff space. We denote by $C(X,A)$ the algebra of all continuous functions on $X$ with values in a complex commutative unital Banach algebra $A$. Let $C_{b}(X,A)$ be its subalgebra consisting of all bounded continuous functions and endowed with the uniform norm. In this paper, we give conditions equivalent to the density of a natural continuous image of $X\times \mathcal {M}(A)$ in the maximal ideal space of $C_{b}(X,A)$.

We introduce the new concept of pseudo-(normed Q) algebra. This is a generalisation of the notion of pseudo-complete algebra. Using it we study the Allan-Waelbroeck spectrum σA (x) and the extended spectrum Σ(x), given by W. Żelazko, for x in a unital locally convex algebra. In particular, we compare these two spectra.

In this paper we prove that the extended spectrum Σ (x), defined by W. Żelazko, of an element x of a pseudo-complete locally convex unital complex algebra A is a subset of the spectrum σA(x), defined by G.R. Allan.Furthermore, we prove that they coincide when Σ(x) is closed. We also establish some order relations between several topological radii of x, among which are the topological spectral radius Rt(x) and the topological radius of boundedness βt(x).

We present relations between topologically invertible elements, topological divisors of zero and invertible elements of unital topological algebras. We de¯ne the advertible completion of a unital topological algebra A and give an explicit description of this new algebra when A is commutative. This description is exempli¯ed in the algebra of holomorphic functions on the complex unit closed disc endowed with an m-convex topology.

Let X be a topological space and C b (X) the algebra of bounded continuous complex functions defined on X, with the strict topology β defined by R. Giles. In this paper a necessary and sufficient condition is given in order that C b (X) be an m-convex algebra, when X is a completely regular Hausdorff space. The density of principal ideals in this algebra and an algebra of analytic sequences are also studied.

Hyperglycaemia is a very common complication in post–cardiac surgical patients, and as such, it must be properly managed. For this purpose, the enhanced Model Predictive Control algorithm for glycaemia control has been implemented into a nurse-led device called Space GlucoseControl (SGC) that aims to achieve a safe and effective blood glucose control in a better way than the traditional “paper-based” protocols. The aim of the study was to know the effectiveness and safety of the SGC in glycaemia control ...

Protected areas are of paramount relevance to conserving wildlife and ecosystem contributions to people. Yet, their conservation success is increasingly threatened by human activities including habitat loss, climate change, pollution, and species overexploitation. Thus, understanding the underlying and proximate drivers of anthropogenic threats is urgently needed to improve protected areas’ effectiveness, especially in the biodiversity-rich tropics. We addressed this issue by analyzing expert-provided ...
