Designing the training of future teachers through holistic and interdisciplinary visions is vital to developing coherent contents, epistemologies, and methodologies that put Education for Sustainability into action. The research presented here analyzes the teaching guides from the curriculum for the Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Teaching at the Universitat de València (Spain). A collaborative study on the inclusion of sustainability in a selected sample of teaching guides was conducted from ...

To assess the prevalence and associated factors of depression in a Mexican Parkinson's disease (PD) population.Depressive symptoms are frequent in PD and have been recognized as a major determinant of quality of life. Only two previous studies have partially addressed depression in Mexican PD patients. One hundred forty-seven non-demented PD patients were recruited at the movement disorder specialist clinic at the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Mexico City. The mechanism of action of the pituitary hormone PRL was studied in hepatocytes of lactating rats. PRL receptor immune complexes obtained from liver lysates have an associated tyrosine kinase activity. The tyrosine kinase has been identified in isolated hepatocytes as pp60c-src. Incubation of hepatocytes with PRL induces the association of PRL receptor with pp60c-src and the resultant stimulation of its tyrosine kinase activity. Furthermore, PRL stimulates the gene expression of c-fos, c-jun, and ...

Background: Growth hormone-releasing peptides (GHRPs) constitute a group of small synthetic peptides that stimulate the growth hormone secretion and the downstream axis activity. Mounting evidences since the early 1980s delineated unexpected pharmacological cardioprotective and cytoprotective properties for the GHRPs. However, despite intense basic pharmacological research, alternatives to prevent cell and tissue demise before lethal insults have remained as an empty niche in the clinical armamentarium. ...

SUMMARY The plant immune system perceives a diversity of carbohydrate ligands from plant and microbial cell walls through the extracellular ectodomains (ECDs) of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), which activate pattern‐triggered immunity (PTI). Among these ligands are oligosaccharides derived from mixed‐linked β‐1,3/β‐1,4‐glucans (MLGs; e.g. β‐1,4‐D‐(Glc) 2 ‐β‐1,3‐D‐Glc, MLG43) and cellulose (e.g. β‐1,4‐D‐(Glc) 3 , CEL3). The mechanisms behind carbohydrate perception in plants are poorly characterized ...

Entomopathogenic fungi belonging to the genus Isaria (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae) are promising candidates for microbial control of insect pests. Currently, the Mexican government is developing a biological control program based on extensive application of Isaria isolates against Diaphorina citri (Hemiptera: Liviidae), a vector of citrus huanglongbing disease. Previous research identified three promising Isaria isolates (CHE-CNRCB 303, 305, and 307; tentatively identified as Isaria fumosorosea) from ...

New adjuvants are required in the field of vaccinology to enhance the immunogenicity and efficacy of subunit vaccines, which constitute a safer approach to protect against infectious diseases compared to whole pathogen-based vaccines. In the present study, rare-earth upconverting microparticles were explored as possible antigen carriers with adjuvant properties by using a peptide from the Zika virus, an emerging pathogen to which no vaccines are available. The effect of relative strength on the dependent variables was analysed. Additionally, the potential of the RPE to predict external load parameters was assessed. A decrease in the serum concentrations of the soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) is considered a good index of tissue iron. Because obesity is associated with hyperferritinemia and this is considered a sign of iron overload, a decrease in sTfR would be expected for the obese. We evaluated whether obese men with hyperferritinemia, detected in a genetic screening programme for hereditary hemochromatosis (HH), have lower serum concentrations of sTfR than their non-obese counterparts.75 men (age: 55.4+/- ...

The double-stranded RNA-dependent protein kinase (PKR) is one of the four mammalian kinases that phosphorylates the translation initiation factor 2α in response to virus infection. This kinase is induced by interferon and activated by double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). Phosphorylation of eukaryotic initiation factor 2α (eIF2α) blocks translation initiation of both cellular and viral mRNA, inhibiting virus replication. To counteract this effect, most viruses express inhibitors that prevent PKR activation ...
