We present the results of a retrospective study based on a cohort of 140 patients who underwent endoscopic CO(2) laser excision for previously untreated early glottic cancer (21 Tis, 96 T1, and 23 T2). This study used univariate analysis to review the impact on disease-free survival of 15 factors related to the host, the tumor, and the treatment. Recurrent cancer developed in 28 patients with an average interval to recurrence of 37.5 months. Retreatment consisted of different procedures, including ...

Endoscopic transcanal myringoplasty is a newly-introduced technique for reconstruction of tympanic membrane perforation that offers the advantage to obviate postauricular incision. The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of a double-handed endoscope holder transcanal myringoplasty in children. This technique permits bimanual execution of the procedure and allows the surgeon to overcome the two significant issues of single-handed endoscope surgery, i.e. easy domination of a bloody ...

Hardware and software disaggregation is a recognized strategy for achieving efficiency and cost reduction within datacentre warehouse. More recently this approach has been applied to high-bandwidth inter-datacenter connectivity at the transport layer. Telecom Operators look with great interest at this approach which promises savings that could make the difference in years of ever decreasing margins on revenues. This paper presents and analyzes how disaggregation models in the wavelength division ...

Hyperfibrinolysis is a systemic condition occurring in various clinical disorders such as trauma, liver cirrhosis, and leukemia. Apart from increased bleeding tendency, the pathophysiological consequences of hyperfibrinolysis remain largely unknown. Our aim was to develop an experimental model of hyperfibrinolysis and to study its effects on the homeostasis of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). We induced a sustained hyperfibrinolytic state in mice by hydrodynamic transfection of a plasmid encoding for ...

Ultracold polar molecules are an ideal platform for studying many-body physics with long-range dipolar interactions. Experiments in this field have progressed enormously, and several groups are pursuing advanced apparatus for manipulation of molecules with electric fields as well as single-atom-resolved in situ detection. Such detection has become ubiquitous for atoms in optical lattices and tweezer arrays, but has yet to be demonstrated for ultracold polar molecules. Here we present a proposal ...

To reap its full benefits, 5G must evolve into a scalable decentralized architecture by exploiting intelligence ubiquitously and securely across different technologies, network layers, and segments. In this article, we propose end-to-end and ubiquitous secure machine learning (ML)-powered intent-based networking (IBN). The IBN framework is aware of its state and context to autonomously take proactive actions for service assurance. It is integrated in a zero-touch control and orchestration framework ...

Border disease virus (BDV) causes congenital disorders in sheep and results in severe, but underestimated, economic losses worldwide. However, information about BDV strains affecting several ruminants worldwide is scarce. Therefore, antigenic and genetic classification of isolates from different geographical regions is important to enhance the knowledge of the epidemiology of BDV.Five pestiviruses isolated from lambs in an epidemic outbreak with an unusually high mortality in Spain in 1997 were characterised ...
