A grain-boundary enhanced diffusion model was applied to the cation interdiffusion in polycrystalline fluorite-cubic solid solutions to determine separately the lattice and grain-boundary interdiffusion coefficients. The Zr-Hf lattice interdiffusion coefficients determined for the 16 CaO · 84(Zr1−xHfx)O2 system in the temperature range of 1502–2083°C were described by D = rm 0.023 exp(−90 × 103/RT) cm2/s and those for the 14 MgO · 86(Zr1−xHfx)O2 system in the temperature range of 1680–2083°C by D = 0.033 ...

Abstract Fluorine‐containing polyarylates having inherent viscosities of 0.2–0.8 dL/g were prepared from tetrafluoroisophthaloyl chloride and various bisphenols by low temperature solution polycondensation in chloroform with triethylamine or by two‐phase polycondensation in a dichloromethane‐water or nitrobenzene‐water system with benzyltriethylammonium chloride as the phase transfer catalyst. These polyarylates were amorphous and were readily soluble in various solvents, including chloroform and ...

Abstract The new acylating agents [PhS(O)–CH=C(OMe)Cl and the corresponding sulfone] were proved to be useful for indroduction of an acetyl group into the α-position of the carbonyl group by means of two-carbon Michael acceptors, which was successfully applied to a total synthesis of (±)-aspidofractinine.

Atherosclerotic diseases are the major cause of mortality and morbidity in patients on haemodialysis (HD). Furthermore, the prognosis of diabetic patients on HD is especially poor due to atherosclerotic complications. Because homocysteine (Hcy), a sulfur-containing amino acid, is emerging as an important risk factor for atherosclerosis in patients with end-stage renal disease, we examined the significance of serum Hcy levels in diabetic patients on HD.We measured total serum Hcy levels (tHcy) in 31 ...

Human Heterophyes nocens infection was confirmed in 2 areas of Mikkabi-cho, Shizuoka Prefecture where high prevalence of Metagonimus yokogawai infection had been reported. The total prevalence showed 9.6% by stool examination. Among the patients, the older age's males predominated, and the infection within the same family was often observed. Adult worms were collected from stool samples of the patients after treatment with praziquantel. The worms were identified as H. nocens with morphological characteristics. ...

endo-N-Cyclohexylbicyclo[2,2,1]hept-2-ene-5,6-dicarboximide (CHN or endo-CHN), one of the norbornene derivatives, was prepared from N-cyclohexylmaleimide (CHMI) and cyclopentadiene (CPD) according to the Diels-Alder reaction. Yields of homopolymers were about 10 wt% No CHN could be polymerized in bulk without radical catalysts under 250°C. But at 250°C for 6 h, endo-CHN was converted to exo-CHN in a 75 mol% yield. The polymerization of CHN over 300°C for 1 h gave the polymer in about 100% yield. The ...

2-Alkylcyclopentanone phenylhydrazones (Ia, b) were refluxed with 98-100% formic acid to solely afford cis-1 : 2 : 3 : 3a : 4 : 8b-hexahydro-8b-alkyl-cyclopent (b) indoles (IVa, b) in the yields of 34% and 33%, respectively. Similar treatment of cyclopentanone phenylhydrazone with formic acid gave indoline (IVc) and indoles (IIc) and its N-formyl derivative (IIe). The reaction mechanism and stereochemistry of these products are discussed.

The relationship between the interdiffusion coefficient and the self-diffusion coefficients of constituent ions was theoretically derived for interdiffusion of the fluorite-cubic solid solution. The derived theoretical interdiffusion coefficient showed a good agreement with the experimentally determined interdiffusion coefficient for a fluorite-cubic ZrO2-CaO solid solution. The results confirmed that the interdiffusion was controlled predominantly by the diffusivity of the faster cation.

Abstract Summary: Inclusion complexes (ICs) between α ‐cyclodextrin ( α ‐CD) and three kinds of biodegradable aliphatic polyesters with different sequence lengths of the monomeric repeating units poly(3‐hydroxypropionate) [P(3HP)], poly(4‐hydroxybutyrate) [P(4HB)] and poly( ε ‐caprolactone)(PCL) were prepared by mixing a solution of α ‐CD with that of the polymer, followed by stirring. The ICs were obtained as insoluble precipitates and characterized by FT‐IR, WAXD and DSC. All measurements showed that the ...

Abstract A new highly phenylated heterocyclic diamine, 3,4‐bis(4‐aminophenyl)‐2,5‐diphenylfuran, was synthesized in three steps from 4–‐nitrodeoxybenzoin. The low temperature solution polycondensation of the diamine with various aromatic diacid chlorides afforded tetraphenylfuran‐containing aromatic polyamides with inherent viscosities of 0.2–0.8 dL/g. Copolyterephthalamides were obtained from the diamine and 4,4′‐oxydianiline. The polyamides were generally soluble in a wide range of solvents that ...
