There are those who will remember Lowell J. Reed as an administrator. He was head of the Biostatistics Department and then Dean of the School of Hygiene. He was twice called out of retirement to take important ad. ministrative posts. The second retirement ended after two months when he was asked to serve as President of the Johns Hopkins University and Hospital from 1953 until he finally retired in 1956.
