Abstract A method is proposed for accurately calculating the radiation pattern of reflector antennas in the entire angular range from the main beam direction to the off axis region. The principle of the method is similar to the physical optics diffraction theory, and consists of the result obtained by conventional physical optics corrected with the contribution from the edge current calculated by the geometrical theory of diffraction. However, the edge current is expressed in a simple form by means ...

Abstract The radiation pattern of the ESPAR antenna is controlled by variable reactances loaded to its passive elements. In this paper, the effects of the number of elements and the variable range of the reactance value on the beam and null forming capability are studied by simulation using the method of moments. It is found that a beam with a directivity of more than 8 dBi and a null of less than −40 dBi can be scanned independently in all directions when the number of elements is more than 5 and ...

Microplastics (MPs) have been reported in the outdoor/indoor air of urban centres, raising health concerns due to the potential for human exposure. Since aerosols are considered one of the routes of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) transmission and may bind to the surface of airborne MPs, we hypothesize that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) could be associated with the levels of MPs in the air. Our goal was to quantify the SARS-CoV-2 RNA and MPs present in the total suspended ...

Abstract This paper describes a concept and key technologies for a modular mesh deployable antenna. A modular concent is suggested. The advantage of the modular concept and the influence of alignment errors on the surface accuracy are estimated quantitatively. The antenna reflector consists of a mesh surface, a cable network, and deployable truss modules. The cable network comprises three kinds of cables–surface, tie, and back cables. Adjustment of tie cable lengths improves the surface accuracy. ...

Abstract A radial line slot antenna is a planar antenna which in principle has high efficiency. An excellent efficiency of no less than 57 percent has been measured in the 12‐GHz band. To realize the predicted 80 percent efficiency, reflection in the antenna feeding structure should be suppressed. In this paper, field analysis by means of the finite element method (FEM) provides the shapes of the feeding structures which minimize the reflection. Numerical results predict that the antenna overall ...

Abstract A K (30/20 CHz)/ C (6/4 GHz)/ S (2.6/2.5 GHz) bands offset satellite antenna with an S/C bands feed horn and a low pass frequency selective surface (FSS) covering only part of a whole aperture angle, is designed, reproduced, its characteristic as an onboard antenna is confirmed and a design method and characteristic evaluation method for this type of antenna are established. In this antenna, three different frequency bands with different optimum aperture diameters share one reflector. the optimum ...

This paper proposes a periodic dipole array with a double-layered structure as the polarizer for a planar antenna. The structure is analyzed in the spectral domain. Parameters are determined so that the transmission coefficient and the cross-polarization discrimination (XPD) are maximized for an incident circular polarized wave. As a result, theoretical values of less than 0.2 dB for the transmission loss and above 28 dB for XPD for the 11.7–12.0 Ghz band are obtained. Construction and the characteristics ...

Abstract The radial line slot antenna is a thin circularly polarized antenna intended for satellite broadcast reception, and is expected to be highly efficient in principle. To improve the efficiency, it is necessary to suppress the grating lobe in the 90‐deg direction by means of a slow‐wave structure in the antenna. To this end, styrofoam is mainly used. However, it is more appealing to find a structure without any dielectric material from the viewpoint of heat resistance, fluctuation of the permittivity, ...

Abstract Environmental test results are presented for connector contacts with dissimilar metal interfaces where gold‐plated contacts are matched with silver‐ or tin‐plated contacts. Tested card edge connectors were exposed in 20‐ppm SO 2 atmosphere with three humidity levels and in three field sites during 4.5 years. the results demonstrate that dissimilar metal contact systems show remarkable increase in contact resistance rather than similar base metal contact systems. Particularly, high humidity ...

Abstract The slot coupling characteristics are analyzed and the aperture distributions are evaluated for several dielectric layers loaded on the upper surface outside the radial line slot antenna. First, for the design of a uniform aperture distribution, mutual coupling is expressed approximately by an infinite array of two‐dimensional slot pairs with equal‐amplitude excitation in a model with periodic boundary walls in the two directions of an external region. Based on this approximation, the slot ...

Abstract When a multibeam antenna uses a reflector antenna, the effect of blocking for a large feeder system cannot be neglected. An offset type becomes advantageous for such a case. However, the cross‐polarized waves increase due to asymmetry of the reflector. We considered an antenna in which a grid plate is inserted between the primary radiator and the reflector. We can suppress the components of cross‐polarized waves by choosing the position of the grid plate and by designing strip patterns. ...

Abstract To realize the desired aperture distribution in a radial line slot antenna (RLSA), accurate evaluation of the coupling, guided wavelength and radiation phase of slot sets are required. Moreover, for the slot set similarly to the linearly polarized RLSA whose reflection is essentially large, reflection from one slot set should be reduced sufficiently to realize the desired traveling wave operation; therefore, the reflection coefficient should also be evaluated. In this paper, the scattering ...

Abstract The scattering cross section of the dielectric sphere was expressed in infinite series by Stratton. However, this series is difficult to calculate. In the conventional calculation, the applicable ranges of parameters are limited and the number of terms required for infinite series calculation is not clear. Further, the relation between the resonance of dielectric spheres proposes a new calculation method. The fundamental nature of the resonance of the dielectric sphere is discussed and ...

In the design of the photodiode design formulas for sensing capacity, responsivity and spectral response are presented and are in good agreement with the measurement. In order to suppress blooming without lowering the responsivity, the threshold voltage of the vertical switch transistor ...

Abstract Discrete coding transform (DCT) coding is a highly efficient coding method for still images with continuous intensity. It has a feature that a drastic image compression can be realized. Among the coding methods considered by JPEG for international standardization, it is adopted as the most basic baseline system which is a cooperative organization of CCITT and ISO. However, the method is an irreversible coding. When the coding/decoding is applied iteratively to the image once coded and decoded, ...
