... of Absorption Lines in the Spectrum of R Andromedae. Merrill, Paul W. ; Greenstein, Jesse L. Abstract Spectrograms, dispersion 4.5 A/mm in the blue region, 6.8 A/mm in the visual, obtained with the 200-inch telescope, form the basis of this article. A list of 1500 absorption lines and band heads from 4000 to 6900 A is in Table 7. The behavior of lines of the rare earths and of other heavy elements including technetium is briefly described. The displacements of lines of 6 neutral metals increase algebraically with excitation potential of the lower level. This work is preliminary to a discussion of chemical abundances in the atmosphere of R Andromedae. Publication: The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series Pub Date: ...

... photometry of the WZ Sge dwarf nova PQ Andromedae. The strongest peak in the power spectrum occurs at a period of 10.5 minutes. Similar periods have been observed in other WZ Sge systems and are attributed to ZZ Ceti–type nonradial pulsations. Our data show the presence of both the O VI λλ1032, 1038 resonance doublet and the λ6825 and λ7082 emission lines and provide strong evidence for the Raman effect in Z And. We show that the unusual line ratio of 7:1 observed for the O VI lines is ...

... M. H. Abstract The McDonald Observatory's 2.7 m photoelectric analyzer was used to examine five symbiotic and VV Cephei variables for the presence of coherent longitudinal fields. Repeated observations of magnetic Ap stars indicates an absolute sensitivity of plus or minus 100-200 gauss. To this level, no new evidence is found supporting the reported kilogauss fields on the quiescent symbiotics AG Pegasi and EG Andromedae, nor for the VV Cephei stars VV Cephei ...

In this study, new photometric observations of shallow contact binary CN Andromedae (CN And) were performed and multi-color (BV R) CCD light curves (LCs) were obtained. Simultaneous analysis of new LCs and published radial velocity (RV) data reveals that the system is an early contact binary in which both components have recently filled their inner Roche lobes. Asymmetric LCs were modeled by a dark spot on the primary component and a hot spot on the secondary component that probably resulted from magnetic ...
