Patrick Luyten,

Abstract In this comment, I focus on a central issue that spans the entirety of Sidney Blatt's research career, namely his contributions to the development of a theoretically consistent and clinically relevant classification system of psychopathology. First, I discuss empirical evidence concerning the key assumptions underlying the currently dominant classification system of mental disorders, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). Second, I compare these assumptions with ...

Laura Silveira‐Moriyama, Ana Marcos González, Sean S. O’Sullivan, David R. Williams, Luke A. Massey, Laura Parkkinen, Zeshan Ahmed, Rohan de Silva, José Chacón, Tamás Révész, Andrew J. Lees, Janice L. Holton,

Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and multiple system atrophy (MSA) are both rare neurodegenerative diseases. In the Queen Square Brain Bank, from 2001 to 2008, we received 120 cases of pathologically confirmed PSP and 36 of MSA, and one had concomitant PSP and MSA pathology. The clinical symptoms in this case were compatible with PSP and did not predict the dual pathology. The growing number of collective case reports, including the one reported here, might suggest an increased prevalence of concomitant ...

Konstantinos Meletis,

Recent studies suggest that non-neural cells can generate neurons in mice and humans. There is no lack of excitement about these results: they challenge our view of cellular differentiation and the prospect of being able to generate neurons from, for example, blood is very attractive. But is it too good to be true?

Unexpected, non-normative events are key influences on human development across the life span. Despite this importance, little is known about how an individual may capitalize on unexpected events and transform them into opportunities for sustained positive development.
