The resistivity of single-crystal ${\mathrm{YBa}}_{2}$${\mathrm{Cu}}_{3}$${\mathrm{O}}_{7\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{x}}$ has been found to be anisotropic, with magnitude and temperature dependence similar to ceramic samples in directions parallel to the Cu-O planes, and with a 30 times larger room-temperature value and a much smaller temperature dependence in the orthogonal direction. The Hall coefficient, with a magnetic field applied parallel to the Cu-O planes, is negative (electronlike) and ...

We present experimental evidence for a hitherto unconfirmed type of angle-dependent magnetoresistance oscillation caused by magnetic breakdown. The effect was observed in the organic superconductor $\ensuremath{\kappa}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{(\mathrm{BEDT}\text{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{TTF})}_{2}\mathrm{Cu}{(\mathrm{NCS})}_{2}$ using hydrostatic pressures of up to $9.8\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{kbar}$ and magnetic fields of up to $33\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{T}$. In addition, we show that ...

Importance of the field: Lenalidomide and other new agents are improving survival of multiple myeloma patients. This review describes current data on lenalidomide in myeloma and how the unique properties of lenalidomide may lend its use in new settings, such as maintenance and preventive therapy.Areas covered in this review: This review covers the activity of lenalidomide in multiple myeloma, efficacy in both newly diagnosed and relapsed/refractory patients, how to manage effectively common adverse ...

Thalidomide is effective in the treatment of multiple myeloma. The immunomodulatory drug and thalidomide analogue lenalidomide is currently in late stage clinical development for MDS and multiple myeloma. This minireview highlights the course of initial and ongoing lenalidomide clinical development in oncology with reference to earlier thalidomide studies.

We report high magnetic field (up to 45 T) c-axis thermal expansion and magnetostriction experiments on URu2Si2 single crystals. The sample length change associated with the transition to the hidden order phase becomes increasingly discontinous as the magnetic field is raised above 25 T. The re-entrant ordered phase III is clearly observed in both the thermal expansion and magnetostriction above 36 T, in good agreement with previous results. The sample length is also discontinuous at the boundaries ...

The quantum magnet NiCl2–4SC(NH2)2 is a candidate for observing Bose-Einstein condensation of spin degrees of freedom in applied magnetic fields. An XY antiferromagnetic ordered state occurs in a dome-shaped region of the temperature-field phase diagram between Hc1=2.1T and Hc2=12.6T and below 1.2K. Bose-Einstein condensation corresponds to the field-induced quantum phase transition into the ordered state. We investigate magnetostriction in single crystals of this compound at dilution refrigerator ...

We report penetration depth and resistivity measurements on the heavy fermion superconductor ${\mathrm{CeCoIn}}_{5}$ using a self-resonant tank circuit based on a tunnel diode oscillator. For magnetic fields applied near parallel to the $ab$ planes and temperatures below 250 mK, two phase transitions were found. The lower field transition, within the superconducting state, is of a second order and we identify it as the transition from the ordinary vortex state to the Fulde, Ferrell, Larkin, Ovchinnikov ( ...

The radiation response of mammary tumours transplanted into syngeneic C3H mice has been measured with the animals breathing air or 100% oxygen at 290 kPa (HPO), either with or without ketamine plus diazepam anaesthesia. The single doses needed to cure 37% of tumours within 40 days (TCD37/40) for mice anaesthetised with ketamine plus diazepam and for unanaesthetised mice irradiated in air were not significantly different, 66.5 Gy and 68.8 Gy respectively. When animals were irradiated in HPO, the TCD37 ...

We present the results of high-field magnetization and muon-spin relaxation measurements on the coordination polymer CuF${}_{2}$(H${}_{2}$O)${}_{2}$(pyrazine) in pressures up to 22.5 kbar. We observe a transition from a quasi-two-dimensional to a quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnetic phase at 9.1 kbar, driven by a rotation of the Jahn-Teller axis. Long-range antiferromagnetic ordering is seen in both regimes, as well as a phase separation in the critical pressure region. The magnetic dimensionality ...

PEA3, a member of the Ets family of transcriptional regulatory proteins, is expressed in a unique spatial and temporal pattern during mouse embryogenesis; its overexpression is positively correlated with HER2-mediated breast tumorigenesis in both humans and mice.To determine whether PEA3 plays a part in development and oncogenesis and to uncover its normal physiological role, we generated mice lacking functional PEA3 by gene targeting in embryonic stem cells.PEA3 ؊/؊ mice arose from heterozygous crosses ...

Two newborn babies with an intact atrial septum are described. In one, the two components of the atrial septum appeared to have become fused after relatively normal initial development; the left side of this heart was hypoplastic. In the other baby the formation of the atrial septum appeared to have been completely anomalous; this heart showed mitral atresia, absence of the left ventricle, and transposition of the great vessels. There was also pulmonary lymphangiectasis in the second case, and it ...

Abstract We report magnetotransport investigation of nonmagnetic InSb single crystal doped with manganese at Mn concentration N Mn ~ 1,5 × 10 17 cm −3 in the temperature range T = 300 K–40 mK, magnetic field B = 0–25T and hydrostatic pressure P = 0–17 kbar. Resistivity saturation was observed in the absence of magnetic field at temperatures below 200 mK while applied increasing external magnetic field induced colossal drop of resistivity (by factor 10 4 ) at B ~ 4T with further gigantic resistivity increase (by ...
