The phase noise of a quartz crystal resonator working at liquid helium temperatures is studied. Measurement methods and the device environment are explained. The phase noise is measured for different resonance modes, excitation levels, amount of operating time, device orientations in relation to the cryocooler vibration axis, and temperatures. Stability limits of a frequency source based on such devices are evaluated in the present measurement conditions. The sources of phase flicker and white noises ...

Background: Most closed-loop insulin delivery systems rely on model-based controllers to control the blood glucose (BG) level. Simple models of glucose metabolism, which allow easy design of the control law, are limited in their parametric identification from raw data. New control models and controllers issued from them are needed. Methods: A proportional integral derivative with double phase lead controller was proposed. Its design was based on a linearization of a new nonlinear control model of ...

Tomaž Mastnak,

Saint-Pierre's European Union, an alternative to the balance of power system and a safeguard against universal monarchy, was based on abolition of state sovereignty. Beyond the law of nations, the Union was to ensure European domination of the world and the use of the world's resources in Europe's own interest. A first step towards this goal was a universal crusade to chase the Turk out of Europe and even out of Asia and Africa. In this, Saint-Pierre followed the logic of Western irenism.

Jean-Louis Lecercle,

Jean-Louis Lecercle : the abbé de Saint-Pierre, Rousseau and Europe. With his project for perpetual peace, the abbé de Saint-Pierre wished to establish an alliance between the states of Christian Europe in order to ensure international peace. He explained to their leaders that it was in their own interests as it guaranteed their power against all attempts at change ; despite his humanistic views, it was a conservative project. Rousseau respected these generous aims, but he showed their Utopian character : the abbé believed he could pacify leaders whose real interest ...
