Abstract The reactions of hydrazidoyl halides with N-phenylcyanothioacetamide and α-cyanothioacetamide gave unexpected hydrazidoyl sulfides, thiadiazolines and thiazole derivatives. The structures of these products were confirmed by elemental analyses and spectral data and wherever possible, alternate synthesis.

Abstract Reaction of phenylglyoxalyl bromide arylhydrazones (III) with thiourea in ethanol produces 2‐amino‐4‐phenyl‐5‐arylazothiazoles (XI) instead of the expected 2‐benzoyl‐4‐aryl‐5‐imino‐Δ 2− 1,3,4‐thiadiazolines (V) obtained from III and potassium thiocyanate. Abstract The azo coupling of dimethylphenacylsulfonium bromides (I) with N-nitrosoacetanilides in nonaqueous solvents, and with diazotized aniline in aqueous media gave 2-bromophenylglyoxal 2-arylhydrazones (V) and the tetrazine (VI), respectively. V reacted with nucleophiles displacing the bromide. Abstract Several new thiadiazoline, selenodiazoline, thiadiazolo[2, 3-b]quinazoline and arylazothiazole derivatives were synthesized via the reaction of 2- (thiocyanatoacetyl)-2′-benzofuran with arendiazonium chlorides, nitrous acid, acetic anhydride, benzoyl chloride, diazotised anthranilic acid and its methyl ester and thiourea. The structures of the newly synthesized derivatives were established on the basis of elemental analyses and spectral data studies.

Abstract Substituted 2‐arylbenzimidazoles, 2‐arylbenzoxazoles and 2‐arylbenzothiazoles were obtained in good yield by the reaction of hydroximoyl chlorides with ortho ‐substituted aromatic amines. The benzo moiety of the benzimidazoles was shown by nmr to be symmetrical, indicating that the N‐H group proton of the imidazole ring is exchanging with the water protons in the DMSO‐d 6 solvent.

Some new 2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazoles containing pyrazol-3-yl, indolin-2-one-2-yl and indan-1,3-dione-2-yl moieties in a good yields obtained from the reaction of hydrazonoyl halides with thiocarbamate and carbodithioate in ethanolic triethylamine respectively. In contrast, pyrazolylthiourea reacts with hydrazonoyl halides under the same condition afford corresponding hydrazonoyl sulfide derivatives.
