This article describes a simple non-faradaic impedimetric sensor comprised of L-Cysteine self-assembled on top of an interdigitated gold electrode for the direct detection of lead ions (Pb(II)) in tap water. The sensor consists of only two electrodes and does not require redox probe during detection. During the detection of Pb(II) in tap water, changes in capacitance were observed with a sensitivity of 9.4 nF/log(nM) and a limit of detection of 45 pM at a biasing frequency as low as 10 Hz, which ...

The effect of tannic acid on the corrosion of iron was studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). This study was conducted at different conditions including pH, immersion time, additives and temperature. The impedance of iron in neutral solutions was found to be due to a charge transfer and to a diffusion process through the formed layer on the iron surface. The magnitude of the two processes is time dependent. The effect of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (2-CBI), 2-mercaptobenzoxazole (2- ...

Abstract The effect of fluoride ion concentration and pH on the corrosion behavior of TCA (60 Ti 10 Ag 30 Cu), which is a new Ti alloy with low melting point, pure Titanium (Ti), and TAV (TiAl6V4) was examined using open circuit potential (OCP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) at different potentials. Results show that the corrosion resistance of TCA and Ti decrease at anodic potentials compared with results obtained at OCP. At one potential the corrosion resistance decrease depends on ...

The electrochemical behavior of titanium and two of its alloys in artificial saliva containing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was studied using open-circuit potential, polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. The addition of H2O2 caused a decrease in the corrosion resistance and an enhanced dissolution/oxidation rate. Using a two-layer model of the oxide film, it was concluded that the addition of H2O2 made the inner layer more defective and the outer layer thicker and porous. ...

The galvanic coupling between magnetite and iron in ethylenediaminedisuccinic acid (EDDS) solutions both with and without added iron(II) ions has been studied using electrochemical methods. The galvanic coupling accelerates the corrosion of iron due to the small shift in its potential in the anodic direction. At the same time, the potential of magnetite is cathodically polarized away from the potential range where the only faradaic process—the reductive dissolution of magnetite—takes place and results ...

Photoelectrochemical water splitting with metal oxide semiconductors offers a cost-competitive alternative for the generation of solar fuels. Most of the materials studied so far suffer from poor charge-transfer kinetics at the semiconductor/liquid interface, making compulsory the use of catalytic layers to overcome the large overpotentials required for the water oxidation reaction. Herein, we report a very soft electrolytic synthesis deposition method, which allows remarkably enhanced water oxidation ...
