To establish a multiplex polymerase chain reaction for detection of mycobacteria and specific identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and to evaluate the test in the diagnosis of tuberculosis. Three sets of primers were used to amplify 383 bp, 240 bp and 131 bp DNA fragments from the genes encoding the 65 kDa, MPB64 and the 19 kDa proteins of M. tuberculosis in a single reaction tube. Reaction conditions were optimized with respect to the requirement of DMSO, concentration of MgCl2, ...

Abstract The present study was undertaken to evaluate a nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detection of Y chromosome‐specific fetal DNA in maternal plasma and urine of pregnant women during different gestational stages. DNA isolated from plasma and urine samples of 80 pregnant women (between 7 and 40 weeks' gestation) underwent amplification for Y chromosome‐specific 198 bp DNA by nested PCR. The postpartum analysis of fetal gender showed that 55 women carried male and 25 female fetuses. Among ...

Despite tax being a fundamental method to redistribute wealth and achieve a sustainable economic and social system, tax agencies and institutions in most countries are struggling with low tax collections. This issue is often attributed to the level of compliance among taxpayers. To gain more insight into this problem, a study was conducted to examine how socio-economic determinants such as probability of detection, tax complexity, tax penalty, tax sanctions, tax ethics, tax justice, government spending, ...

A major problem in assessing the vaccine and diagnostic potential of various proteins encoded by Mycobacterium tuberculosis genome is the inability to produce large quantities of these proteins, even when Escherichia coli or other heterologous systems are employed for recombinant protein production. To overcome these barriers, we have constructed a modified expression vector, using pGEX-4T-1 vector as the backbone. In addition to the features offered by the pGEX-4T vectors, the new vector allowed ...

ABSTRACT Basidiobolus ranarum is a known cause of subcutaneous zygomycosis. Recently, its etiologic role in gastrointestinal infections has been increasingly recognized. While the clinical presentation of the subcutaneous disease is quite characteristic and the disease is easy to diagnose, gastrointestinal basidiobolomycosis poses diagnostic difficulties; its clinical presentation is nonspecific, there are no identifiable risk factors, and all age groups are susceptible. The case of gastrointestinal ...

All age groups can be affected; however, in most cases, fragile groups are more susceptible than others. Alzheimer's disease is an irreversible and progressive brain disease that can cause problems with memory and thinking skills. It is characterized by loss of cognitive ability and severe behavioral abnormalities, and could lead to death. Cholinesterases (ChEs) play a crucial role in the control of cholinergic transmission, and subsequently, the acetylcholine level in the brain is upgraded by inhibition of ChEs. Coumarins have been shown to display potential cholinesterase inhibitory action, where ...
