The bacteriophage T4 regA gene codes for a regulatory protein that controls the expression of a number of T4 early genes, apparently at the level of translation. Restriction fragments containing the regA structural gene have been cloned into phage M13, and the nucleotide sequence has been determined. Translation of the DNA sequence predicted that regA protein contains 122 amino acids, with a Mr of 14,620. A DNA fragment carrying 85% of the coding sequence of regA has been cloned into the phage lambda ...

Bacteriophage T4 gene 32 encodes a single-stranded DNA binding protein required for T4 DNA replication, recombination, and repair. Previous attempts at cloning gene 32 have failed due to a presumably deleterious effect on host cell viability. In addition, overexpression of gene 32 would be expected to be limited by the autoregulatory ability of the gene 32 product g32P. A repetitive A + T-rich sequence flanking the ribosome binding site of gene 32 has been implicated in this translational regulation. ...

Abstract The bacteriophage T4 translational represor regA protein has been purified from an overproducing strain, and its activity has been studied in simple in vitro protein synthesis reactions. RegA protein was found to inhibit the translation of T4 genes 44, 45, and ORF45‐1 in a concentration‐dependent fashion. Expression of two other T4 genes which are insensitive to regA protein in vivo, genes 32 and 43, was unaffected by the presence of regA protein. Specific inhibition of synthesis of genes ...

We have overproduced and purified wild type regA protein, a translational repressor encoded by bacteriophage T4. The repressor activity of the cloned regA protein has been tested on four known regA target genes (T4 genes: 44, 45, rpbA and regA) using in vitro coupled transcription-translation reactions. We have demonstrated the sensitivity of two additional T4 genes coding for α-and β glucosyltransferases to regA protein in vitro. The regA target site on the gene 44 messenger RNA has been identified ...

ras genes are expressed in all types of eukaryotic cells, and the products of these genes are thought to be involved in the regulation of cell growth (for review, see Barbacid 1987). The products of mammalian ras genes are referred to as p21 proteins: These proteins bind GDP and GTP with high affinity and possess a low intrinsic GTPase activity. Point mutations within the guanine-nucleotide-binding site can activate the biological activity of ras proteins, enabling them to contribute to the process ...

A cytoplasmic protein that greatly enhances the guanosine triphosphatase (GTPase) activity of N-ras protein but does not affect the activity of oncogenic ras mutants has been recently described. This protein (GAP) is shown here to be ubiquitous in higher eukaryotes and to interact with H-ras as well as with N-ras proteins. To identify the region of ras p21 with which GAP interacts, 21 H-ras mutant proteins were purified and tested for their ability to undergo stimulation of GTPase activity by GAP. ...

Sprouted green peas have been used for the first time as biocatalysts for enantioselective reduction of prochiral ketones. The reactions are highly enantioselective to furnish chiral alcohols in good yields. The sprouted peas as biocatalysts are a cheap and easy way for generating some interesting chiral alcohols. This process is efficient and convenient to produce chiral secondary alcohols in water.

This paper deals with the advanced adaptive control of a batch reactive distillation (RD) column for the production of ethyl acetate. The nonlinear adaptive control law consists of the generic model controller (GMC) and an adaptive state estimator (ASE). In the first part of the present work, the design approach of the ASE scheme in two different forms, namely ASE1 and ASE2, has been addressed for a batch reactive rectifier. The predictor model of both the ASE estimators includes only a component mole ...

Kinetics of oxidation of L ‐cystine by hexacyanoferrate(III) was studied in alkaline medium at 30 °C. The reaction was followed spectrophotometrically at λmax = 420 nm. The reaction was found to be first order dependence each on [HCF(III)] and [cystine]. It was found that the rate of the reaction increases with increase in [OH - ]. The oxidation product of the reaction was found to be cysteic acid. A plausible mechanism has been proposed to account for the experimental results.

A dual-k spacer concept is proposed and evaluated in underlap and nonunderlap n-channel silicon tunnel field-effect transistors (FETs) for the first time using extensive device simulations. The dual-k spacer consists of an inner layer made of a high-k material and an outer layer made of a low-k material. It is shown that the dual-k spacer improves the performance of n-channel tunneling FETs and more so for the underlap structures. Performance improvements are illustrated and explained for SiO 2 , Al ...

Abstract Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) that infects the silkworm, B. mori, accounts for >50% of silk cocoon crop losses globally. We speculated that simultaneous targeting of several BmNPV essential genes in transgenic silkworm would elicit a stable defense against the virus. We introduced into the silkworm germline the vectors carrying short sequences of four essential BmNPV genes in tandem, either in sense or antisense or in inverted-repeat arrangement. The transgenic silkworms carrying ...

We have developed a double-channel high electron mobility transistor with back barriers for carrier confinement. We have observed that the double-channel devices may suffer from the lack of gate control particularly for the lower channel. However, the problem can be contained by using a suitable back barrier for the lower channel. The double-channel back-barrier devices show good current gain and power gain cutoff frequencies. These devices can be operated with excellent gain linearity up to a larger ...
