The aim of this study was to identify, under the best possible conditions, the interspecific differences between the proteins, fat and minerals in goat and cow milk. The protein fractions presented evident differences, especially concerning the amount of αS1-casein, which was lower in the goat milk (62.8%; P < 0.05). The amino acid profile of the two proteins revealed certain differences, although the total quantity of essential amino acids did not vary (P > 0.05). The composition of fats was well-differentiated, ...

A study was carried out to analyse the production and composition of milk from Malagueña goats of different genotypes for the content of α s1 -casein. Twenty goats were used, half of them with a high (HG) and half with a low (LG) genetic capability for α s1 -casein synthesis. Among the ten HG goats, seven had BB and three had AB genotypes, whereas there were seven EF and three FF genotypes among the LG goats. The goats were fed a diet differing in crude protein content, 136 and 177 g/kg dry matter for ...

A wealth of historical, cultural, and biographical evidence points to the fact that there is considerable variation in different people's judgments of creative products. What is creative to one person is deviant to another, and creative efforts often fail to be given the enthusiastic reception that their creators anticipate and think they deserve. Unpacking the roots of these discrepancies, this paper develops an analysis of creativity that is informed by the social identity approach. This analysis ...

This paper develops an analysis of innovative behavior and creativity that is informed by the social identity perspective. Two studies manipulated group norms and analyzed their impact on creative behavior. The results of Study 1 show that when people are asked to make a creative product collectively they display conformity to ingroup norms, but that they deviate from ingroup norms when group members make the same products on their own. A parallel result was found in group members’ private perceptions ...

This paper develops an analysis of creativity that is informed by the social identity approach. Two studies are reported that support this analysis. Study 1 (N=73) manipulated social identity salience and the content of group norms. The group norm was either conservative (i.e. promoted no change) or progressive (i.e. promoted change). When social identity was salient and the group norm was conservative, a non-novel proposal was perceived to be more creative. Study 2 (N=63) manipulated social norms and ...

Five studies examined the hypothesis that people will strategically portray the self as being more group influenced the more junior they feel within the group. Among social psychologists (Study 1), ratings of self-conformity by group members were greater when the status of the participant was low than when it was high. These effects were replicated in Studies 2, 3, and 4 in which relative intragroup status was manipulated. In Study 3, the authors found junior group members described themselves as ...

Prevailing approaches to individual and group creativity have focused on personal factors that contribute to creative behavior (e.g., personality, intelligence, motivation), and the processes of behaving creatively and appreciating creativity are understood to be largely unrelated. This article uses social identity and self-categorization theories as the basis for a model of creativity that addresses these lacunae by emphasizing the role that groups play in stimulating and shaping creative acts and ...

Dense optical flow is a crucial visual cue for obstacle avoidance and motion control for robotic systems functioning in complex unstructured environments. In order to compute image motion for modern highly dynamic robots, it is necessary to use high speed vision systems. To perceive small and thin objects such as tree branches, fence poles, and other similar objects, high resolution vision systems must be used. The data stream from a high-resolution, high-speed vision system will saturate the onboard ...

Seasonally dry tropical forests are distributed across Latin America and the Caribbean and are highly threatened, with less than 10% of their original extent remaining in many countries. Using 835 inventories covering 4660 species of woody plants, we show marked floristic turnover among inventories and regions, which may be higher than in other neotropical biomes, such as savanna. Such high floristic turnover indicates that numerous conservation areas across many countries will be needed to protect ...

Seventy soil samples around and under urban waste landfills in central Spain were studied for 28 physical and chemical properties. In the unaffected surroundings of landfills there is always a higher proportion of coarse and fine gravel. Chlorides, sulphates and nitrates increase noticeably in all the soils affected by landfills as do Na+, B3+ and Zn2+. Multivariate analyses show that higher or lower water retention in the surface layer plays a main role in the organization of both acid and sandier ...

In a greenhouse pot bioassay, four wild herbaceous species were tested for their response to three landfill leachates with different degrees of contamination. Irrigation with leachates gradually increased soil salinity significantly. The responses of each species to soil salination were different. The Na content in grasses and legumes gradually increased under the leachate treatments, ...

A series of studies examined whether mindfulness is associated with the experience of attitudinal ambivalence. Studies 1A and 1B found that mindful individuals expressed greater comfort holding ambivalent views and reported feeling ambivalent less often. In many ecosystems, especially in siliceous soils, the mobile anion balance controls the entire ionic equilibrium. However, the equilibrium of the mobile anion cycle is very fragile, and many factors—abiotic, biotic and, above all, human—constantly disturb it. This letter introduces the "spherepix" data structure for efficient implementation of low-level image processing operations on spherical images. Efficient implementation of low-level image processing depends heavily on separability of the convolution kernels that form the fundamental building blocks of most algorithms. Due to the curvature of the sphere, it is not possible to place an orthogonal grid pixelation globally on its surface, making direct application of classical separable kernel convolutions ...
