In view of some controversies still existing about the real efficacy of ergot derivatives in the management of dementia, a double‐blind, randomized, parallel group trial extending up to 6 months was carried out to compare the effects of nicergoline, 60 mg daily, and placebo in 315 patients suffering from mild to moderate dementia. By anodization of tungsten in acid solutions, oxide films were obtained whose composition depended on the working temperature. In particular, the composition of the films was at 25° and 50°C, but at 70°C. Studies of electrochromism in these films seem to show that the electrocoloration occurs with different mechanisms according to the oxide chemical composition. The anodic behaviour of tungsten in HCl and HCl + KCl solutions has been extensively studied. For each solution, the applied voltage was increased from 1 V up to the breakdown voltage. Values of the current and open circuit voltage decays were recorded. Tensiostatic anodization of tungsten has been studied in 1 N solutions of H2SO4, HClO42, HNH2SO3 and HCl at 25 °C. For several voltage values, the curves of current vs. time and open-circuit voltage vs. time have been obtained. All results indicate that the oxide films produced during the polarization are slowly dissolved in the acid solutions. Scanning electron microscopy was used to investigate the morphology of anodic oxide films on tungsten, obtained in various conditions of anodization. Studies were made of the growth of porous films, whose thickness increases with time and depends upon the current density. Temperature and electrolyte composition influence the film morphology. Neurophysiological investigations (EEG, ERG, VEP) were carried out in 13 patients with proven "mitochondrial myopathy". There were nine girls and four boys. Varied abnormalities were seen in the EEGs of all cases, and in one patient unusual repetitive bursts of irregular slow waves and spikes were observed. Neurophysiological investigations (EEG, ERG, VEP) were carried out in 14 boys with adrenoleucodystrophy, and in two siblings with adrenocortical deficiency, but without neurological symptoms. Irregular large amplitude (200-800 microvolts) slow activity was found in the EEG of all adrenoleucodystrophy patients, usually more prominent over the posterior regions of the brain. Abstract The formation constants of Li + , N + , K + , Mg 2+ and Ca 2+ phenoxyacetate complexes were determined potentiometrically using an (H + )-glass electrode at 10, 25, 37 and 45°C, at several ionic strengths, in the range 0.04⩽ I ⩽ 0.9 mol 1 −1 . Simple empirical equations for the dependence of the formation constants on ionic strength were derived. From the temperature coefficients, estimates of Δ H o and Δ S o were obtained.

The influence of anodizing parameters and thermal treatments on the photoelectrochemical behaviour of the corrosion layers grown on tungsten is presented and discussed. In two, the disorder is caused by a malsegregation of a maternal translocation, the karyotype being 46,XY,der(18),t(12;18)(p11;q23) (case 2) and 46,XX,-10,+ der(10),t(10;12)(p15;p11) (case 3).
