We identified marine fish species most preferred by women at reproductive age in Selangor, Malaysia, mercury concentrations in the fish muscles, factors predicting mercury accumulation and the potential health risk. Acute kidney injury treated with kidney replacement therapy (AKI-KRT) occurs frequently in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). We examined the clinical factors that determine kidney recovery in this population.Multicenter cohort study.4,221 adults not receiving KRT who were admitted to intensive care units at 68 US hospitals with COVID-19 from March 1 to June 22, 2020 (the "ICU cohort"). The weighted ergodic sum-rate maximisation problem subject to per-user power and rate constraints in the orthogonal frequency division multiple access uplink is formulated and solved. The solution is found via dual optimisation techniques, and the duality gap between the primal and dual solutions is analysed. Ergodicity allows taking advantage of the temporal dimension in addition to the frequency and multiuser dimensions. The per-user rate constraints allow an improved fairness level in the system. ...

The 2015 Lancet Commission on global surgery identified surgery and anaesthesia as indispensable parts of holistic health-care systems. However, COVID-19 exposed the fragility of planned surgical services around the world, which have also been neglected in pandemic recovery planning. This study aimed to develop and validate a novel index to support local elective surgical system strengthening and address growing backlogs.

Rodents were collected from endemic foci of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Jordan, either by flooding their burrows with water or using Sherman traps. Of the 170 jirds (Psammomys obesus) collected, 39 (23%) had Leishmania amastigotes in one or both ears. Although cultures of ear biopsies from the infected animals were all positive, cultures made using biopsies from their noses, livers or spleens were all negative.
