The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most rapidly evolving networking concepts, offering various applications for human benefit. Advances in embedded system architecture and compressed IPv6 have enabled IP stack functionality in resource-constrained heterogeneous smart devices. The IETF Routing Over Low power and Lossy network (ROLL) Working Group (WG) devised IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) to enable the communication between network nodes in IPv6 over Low-power Wireless ...

To assess the impact of capacity-building interventions introduced by the Oman National AIDS Programme on the quality of HIV care in the country.HIV viral load (VL) suppression and loss to follow-up (LTFU) rates were calculated for the period before (in December 2015; n=1098) and after (in June 2017; n=1185) the introduction of the interventions: training, support, and care pathway development. Three HIV VL cuts-offs at last measurement in the year of interest were used to define VL suppression. In the ...

Plasmodium vivax is the second most important human malaria parasite, widely spread across the world. This parasite is associated with important issues in the process toward malaria elimination, including potential for relapse and increased resistance to chloroquine. Plasmodium vivax multi-drug resistant (pvmdr1) is suspected to be a marker of resistance although definitive evidence is lacking. Progress has been made in knowledge of biological factors affecting parasite growth, including mechanisms ...

The study presents results on the taxonomic composition and abundance of fish larvae collected in south-western part of the Oman Sea (near Muscat and Sohar) from October 2011 to October 2012. 40 families of larval fishes were identified, which included 47 genera and 28 species. The four most common families, arranged in order of decreasing abundance, were Sparidae, Scombridae, Clupeidae and Nemipteridae. Fish larvae from 13 families occurred both in Sohar and Muscat areas (Blenniidae, Carangidae, ...

Idelalisib, an inhibitor of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase p110δ subunit (PI3Kδ), is approved for treating lymphoid malignancy. The drug is associated with hematopoietic and pulmonary toxicities, which limit its clinical use. However, the toxicity mechanisms are not completely elucidated. In this study, mice were intraperitoneally injected with idelalisib (40 or 80 µg/g) or dimethyl sulfoxide for five days every week for up to four weeks to evaluate the changes in the thymus, spleen, and pulmonary ...

Statins are the cornerstone treatment for patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia but research suggests it could increase the risk of type 2 diabetes in the general population. A low prevalence of type 2 diabetes was reported in some familial hypercholesterolaemia cohorts, raising the question of whether these patients are protected against type 2 diabetes. Obesity is a well known risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes. We aimed to investigate the associations of known ...
