The structure and number of airborne vocalizations of Arctocephalus pusillus doriferus and A. forsteri were studied. Four types of calls were compared: the pupattraction call given by adult females; the female-attraction call given by pups; the high-intensity guttural threat given by adult males; and, the repetitive barking call given by adult males. Male A. fovsteri gave two additional threat calls not present in A. p. doriferus. The structure and number of the calls given by the two species are ...

The High Resolution Airborne Wideband Camera (HAWC) and the Submillimeter And Far Infrared Experiment (SAFIRE) will use identical Adiabatic Demagnetization Refrigerators (ADR) to cool their detectors to 200mK and 100mK, respectively. In order to minimize thermal loads on the salt pill, a Kevlar® suspension system is used to hold it in place. An innovative, kinematic suspension system is presented. The suspension system is unique in that it consists of two parts that can be assembled and tensioned offline, ...

The observation of rotational transitions from minor constituents in the mm-wave range permits the retrieval of the corresponding molecule abundance in the altitude range of 15 to 70 km. This work describes the latitude-altitude cross-sections of water vapour which were derived from measurements of the 183 GHz emission line and were are obtained during different seasons with the Learjet of the Swiss Air Force.
