The synthetic polynucleotides may be used as models for the effects of alkylating agents on nucleic acid. Alkylation of polyadenylic acid with methyl methanesulfonate yields a polymer methylated in the one-position of adenine. This alteration in structure produces marked changes in physical properties and decreases the capacity to code for polylysine synthesis.

Abstract The use of bacteria as a tool for machining, also known as biomachining, is a novel material removal process. This study characterizes the surface changes and relates the material removal rate to quantified bacterial concentrations resulting from machining of pure polycrystalline Cu using the bacterium Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. Cu blocks, polished to four levels of surface roughness, were utilized to examine the surface effects of bacterial machining. The mass change in Cu foil was ...

ABSTRACT Many rating scales have been applied to the evaluation of dystonia, but only few have been assessed for clinimetric properties. The Movement Disorders Society commissioned this task force to critique existing dystonia rating scales and place them in the clinical and clinimetric context. A systematic literature review was conducted to identify rating scales that have either been validated or used in dystonia. Thirty‐six potential scales were identified. Eight were excluded because they did ...

Abstract Background Dysphagia is the main symptom of adult eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). We describe a novel syndrome, referred to as “food‐induced immediate response of the esophagus” (FIRE), observed in EoE patients. Methods Food‐induced immediate response of the esophagus is an unpleasant/painful sensation, unrelated to dysphagia, occurring immediately after esophageal contact with specific foods.
