Trichobezoar consists of a compact mass of hair occupying the gastric cavity to a various extent. When the trichobezoar extends past the duodenum it is better referred to as Rapunzel Syndrome. Although trichobezoars are well described in terms of surgical diagnostic and procedure, there are only but very scarce reports on psychiatric literature, usually associated with trichotillomania. The authors present a clinical case of trichobezoar and discuss the most relevant aspects concerning this entity. ...

Kingella kingae has emerged as an important cause of osteoarticular infections (OAI) in young children, ranging from 48 to 82%, as a result of improved culture methods and nucleic acid amplification techniques. 1 Usually these infections are mild and have a favorable prognosis, 2-5 but severe infections have been reported. 1Mallet et al. conducted a retrospective study and identified 10 unusual K. kingae OAI with bony lytic lesions and growth cartilage damage. 1 We also report three patients with ...

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a severe psychiatric condition with an estimated global prevalence of 2-3%.In women the age of onset is bimodal with the first peak between the age of 13 and 16 years and the second peak between 22 and 32 years. These peaks coincide with puberty and child-bearing years, respectively.Besides these two periods, it has been proposed that premenstrum, pregnancy and post-partum are also associated with an increased risk of onset or exacerbation of OCD.In this paper, ...

The urachus is an intra-abdominal fibrous remnant of the allantois. The non-involution of the allantois can result in urachal anomalies. The abnormal appearance of the umbilicus may be a sign of such anomalies. We have observed 3 cases of term neonates with atypical appearance of the umbilical stump, all of which manifested urachal anomalies, as documented by ultrasound scan. These appearances are rarely described in the literature, and seem to regress at around 2 months. Therefore, it is important ...

Introduction The word cringe has suffered alterations in its colloquial application, with its most recent version, adopted by generation Z and millennials, as a response to embarrassment or social awkwardness by proxy. This odd emotion is interesting in that it translates a vicarious embarrassment which is elicited whenever one is in the presence of a social blunder, public failures and threats to another’s social integrity. Objectives The authors aim to explore the novel concept of cringe, briefly ...

Introduction Kingella kingae is increasingly being recognised as a common aetiology of osteoarticular infections, especially in younger children. Infections are usually mild with a favourable outcome. However, unusually complicated cases have been rarely reported. Case Report Three children with complicated K. kingae osteoarticular infection were identified. The age varied between 2 to 3 years-old and the diagnostic delay was 12 ± 6 days. All had lower limb claudication, low grade fever and normal-to-mild elevated ...

Introduction As it has been for the last 30 years, male borderline personality are still misdiagnosed and herded into substance treatment, anger management and prison. Gender matters from the failure of clinicians to identify it in men to the failure of researchers to study how it affects men differently and the treatment implications of those dissimilarities. Methods The authors propose a retrospective study investigating all patients hospitalized with Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosis ...

A late preterm infant, with very low birth weight (1430 g), was admitted in our unit after an induced delivery at 34th week of gestation for fetal growth restriction since the 32nd week. After birth, the neonate's first evaluation revealed no infectious parameters (9120/μL leucocytes, C reactive protein (CPR) <0.5 mg/dL) and no infection (including TORCH group) was documented in the mother during pregnancy. Between days 2 and 3 a peripheral venous catheter in the left inferior limb was used for fluid …

Background: Heart failure is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide; left ventricular diastolic dysfunction plays a leading role in this clinical context. Diastolic dysfunction may be predisposed by increased abdominal fat and, consequently, increased pericardial and epicardial adiposity. This study aimed to determine whether pericardial fat (PF) and epicardial fat (EF) are associated with left ventricular diastolic function. Methods: A total of 82 patients had their abdominal circumference ...

Acute agitation occurs in a variety of medical and psychiatric conditions and is the clinical presentation in a significant percentage of urgent psychiatric episodes, requiring prompt and effective intervention. Traditionally, agitation was managed in psychiatric wards using physical restraint. With the advent of tranquilizing neuroleptics, such as chlorpromazine, the pharmacological management of these conditions became possible. Acute agitation, although a potential result of most psychiatric ...
