We present new results concerning the formation mechanism of lead carbonate (Pb3(CO3)2(OH)2) by laser ablation in ethanol, under controlled atmospheres. We suggest that carbon dioxide (CO2) is absorbed from ambient atmosphere and converted into carbonate in a reaction mediated by ethoxide anion produced during the ablation.
