This paper presents a new algorithm for rapid and efficient clustering of sensing nodes within a heterogeneous wireless sensor network. The objective is to enable optimal sensor allocation for localization uncertainty reduction in multitarget tracking. The proposed algorithm is built on three metrics: 1) sensing feasibility, 2) measurement quality to maximize information utility, and 3) communication cost to minimize data routing time. The derived cluster serves as the search space for the optimal ...

The Norwegian language has two written standards, Bokmål (majority variety) and Nynorsk (minority variety), and children receive their schooling in one or other of them. Pupils schooled in Nynorsk acquire the Bokmål variety simultaneously through extracurricular exposure and thus develop what may be termed bidialectal literacy. In this study, we correlate, at municipal level, the results from Norwegian standardized national tests in reading, arithmetic, and English from four cohorts of eighth graders ( ...

The food mutagens 2-amino-3-methylimidazo[4,5-ƒ]quinoline (IQ) and 2-amino-3,4-dimethylimidazo[4,5-ƒ]quinoline (MeIQ) were studied for their genotoxic potential using hepatocytes isolated from untreated and Aroclor 1254 (PCB) pretreated rats as an activation system. Monolayers of hepatocytes co-incubated with Salmonella typhimurium TA98 activated IQ and MeIQ to bacterial mutagens, with MeIQ being about twice as potent as IQ. The mutagenic activities of IQ and MeIQ were increased by using hepatocytes ...

Background Diabetic nephropathy (DN) affects about 30% of patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and contributes to serious morbidity and mortality. So far only the 3q21–q25 region has repeatedly been indicated as a susceptibility region for DN. The aim of this study was to search for new DN susceptibility loci in Finnish, Danish and French T1D families. Methods and Results We performed a genome-wide linkage study using 384 microsatellite markers. A total of 175 T1D families were studied, of which 94 ...

The control strategy accounts for computational time constraints due to limited onboard processing speed. The translational dynamics model is derived from the Clohessy-Wiltshire equations and the angular dynamics are modeled on gas jet actuation about the deputy's center ...

Cutavirus (CuV) is associated with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL), of which parapsoriasis is a precursor. Our study reveals a significantly higher CuV-DNA prevalence in skin swabs of parapsoriasis patients (6/13; 46.2%) versus those of healthy adults (1/51; 1.96%). Eight patients (8/12; 66.7%) had CuV DNA in biopsied skin, and 4 developed CTCL.

This article presents a new evidential reasoning approach for estimating the state of an evolving wildfire in real time. Given assumed terrain information and localized wind velocity distribution parameters, a probabilistic representation (i.e., the belief state) of a wildfire is forecast across the spatiotemporal domain through a compilation of fire spread simulations. The forecast is updated through information fusion based on observations provided by: 1) embedded temperature sensors and 2) mobile ...

Path planning for small unmanned aerial systems (SUAS) in the presence of poorly understood and dynamic obstacles is a challenging problem: for example, flight over a spreading wildfire. Evidential information fusion is used to estimate the current wildfire state and the resulting heat aura at flight level. This approach accounts for ignorance, which is a result of conflict among sensors operating in a harsh environment and a computational forecasting agent that uses a fire evolution model of inadequate ...

Extrapolations of their trends across the inland ice sheet coincide with the northernmost so-called brown dykes (BD's) which are part of the Gardar Province. Furthermore, the deputy’s coupled translational and attitudinal dynamics (modeled via the ...

Abstract Understanding genetic architecture of plasma lipidome could provide better insights into lipid metabolism and its link to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Here, we perform genome-wide association analyses of 141 lipid species (n = 2,181 individuals), followed by phenome-wide scans with 25 CVD related phenotypes (n = 511,700 individuals). We identify 35 lipid-species-associated loci (P <5 ×10 −8 ), 10 of which associate with CVD risk including five new loci- COL5A1 , GLTPD2 , SPTLC3 , MBOAT7 and GALNT16 (false ...

Four nitroarenes were tested in two standard genotoxicity assay systems using three well-known bacterial tester strains. The results were as follows: 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4NQO) was positive in Quillardet and Hofnung’s SOS chromotest using Escherichia coli strain PQ37 both in the presence and absence of microsomal (S9) supplements and in the Salmonella typhimurium umu tester strains NM2009 and NM3009, which express high levels of O-acetyltransferase (O-AT) and O-AT plus nitroreductase (NR) respectively. ...

We formed the GEnetics of Nephropathy-an International Effort (GENIE) consortium to examine previously reported genetic associations with diabetic nephropathy (DN) in type 1 diabetes. GENIE consists of 6,366 similarly ascertained participants of European ancestry with type 1 diabetes, with and without DN, from the All Ireland-Warren 3-Genetics of Kidneys in Diabetes U.K. and Republic of Ireland (U.K.-R.O.I.) collection and the Finnish Diabetic Nephropathy Study (FinnDiane), combined with reanalyzed ...

Diabetic kidney disease, or diabetic nephropathy (DN), is a major complication of diabetes and the leading cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) that requires dialysis treatment or kidney transplantation. In addition to the decrease in the quality of life, DN accounts for a large proportion of the excess mortality associated with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Whereas the degree of glycemia plays a pivotal role in DN, a subset of individuals with poorly controlled T1D do not develop DN. Furthermore, strong ...
