Chalcones are open-chain flavonoids characterized by two aromatic rings joined by a three-carbon α,β-unsaturated carbonyl system. Over the last several years, chalcones have instigated the interest of chemical and pharmacological researchers due to their simple chemical structure and varied biological activities. Here, we performed the electronic properties, of the chalcone, (E)-1-(2-hydroxy-3,4,6-trimethoxyphenyl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl) prop-2-en-1-one synthesized by Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction. ...

Staphylococcus aureus represents the most common etiologic agent of purulent infections, affecting humans and animals. Escherichia coli is one of the principal causes of infectious diseases, mainly diarrheal diseases due to enterotoxin action. There are many reports indicating that these bacteria are multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens. In this study, we investigated the antimicrobial and modulatory activities of 5-hydroxy-3,7,4'-trimethoxyflavone (VG.EF.CLII) against E. coli and S. aureus strains. ...

The Amazon is the primary source of Neotropical diversity and a nexus for discussions on processes that drive biotic diversification. Biogeographers have focused on the roles of rivers and Pleistocene climate change in explaining high rates of speciation. We combine phylogeographic and niche-based paleodistributional projections for 23 upland terra firme forest bird lineages from across the Amazon to derive a new model of regional biological diversification. We found that climate-driven refugial ...

A mononuclear phagocyte derived from B-1 cells (B-1CDP) has been described.
