The CO2 reforming of methane by the combination of catalysts with a dielectric-barrier discharge is investigated as an alternative approach to the conventional pure catalytic process. It is shown that the use of nickel or calcium-promoted nickel catalysts in combination with the discharge leads to an increase in the CO yield of 20 to 40%. The identified products are CO, H2, water, ethane and ethylene, propane, n-butane and methanol. In addition to the experimental investigation, extensive kinetic ...

Potential reasons for the lack of pathogenicity of the simian immunodeficiency virus SIVagm in its natural host, the African green monkey (AGM, Cercopithecus aethiops), were investigated with respect to immunological mechanisms. The functional immune response of monkeys to infection was similar (though not identical) to that of humans to infection with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). In the sera of infected animals, neutralizing antibodies were found to be low or absent, and in particular ...

Family managers' entrepreneurial intentions (EI) play a crucial role in the long-term success of family firms. Previous research has highlighted education as a key driver of EI but has failed to consider the unique socialization processes within business families and their impact on the education-EI relationship. This study aims to fill this gap by examining the direct and indirect effects of education on family managers' EI. By combining the integrated model of EI and research on business families' ...

The RET proto-oncogene encodes a receptor with tyrosine kinase activity (RET) that is involved in several neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases. Oncogenic activation of RET, achieved by different mechanisms, is detected in a sizeable fraction of human thyroid tumors, as well as in multiple endocrine neoplasia types 2A and 2B (MEN2A and MEN2B) and familial medullary thyroid carcinoma tumoral syndromes. Germline mutations of RET have also been associated with a non-neoplastic disease, the congenital ...

Services constitute strategic components of firms' value proposition, specifically for manufacturing firms currently called to servitize their products to develop product-service systems. In order to develop new services, they need to acquire, assimilate, transform and exploit external knowledge, thereby partnering with external stakeholders, a strategy labelled open service innovation. Yet research on innovation management in general and open innovation in particular has mostly focused on product ...

Abstract Through a systematic review of 118 peer‐reviewed journal articles published between 1961 and 2017, this article provides an integrative picture of the state of the art of the family firm innovation literature. Our aim is to widen existing understanding of innovation in family firms by building a theoretical bridge with studies in the mainstream innovation literature. Specifically, in identifying the main gaps in the literature and providing future research directions, our critical and dynamic ...

Consumer preferences are changing, wherein brands with a pronounced local identity are garnering increased favorability. While family firms often embody this concept, there is limited consumer-focused research on its role in family firm management and branding. Drawing from consumer inference theory, we propose that consumers use a firm's family status to infer its local character, including geographical reach, local iconness, national origin, and domestic production, to inform their purchase decisions. ...

By integrating literature on family functionality, family firms, and socioemotional wealth (SEW), we develop a theoretical model explaining how family functionality and SEW dimensions influence firm innovativeness. Our multigroup structural equation model on two samples of family small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) shows that family functionality is positively linked to SEW, whereas divergences emerge on the effect of different SEW dimensions on innovativeness. Binding social ties, the emotional ...

Multiple endocrine neoplasia types 2A and 2B (MEN2A and MEN2B) and familial medullary thyroid carcinoma are dominantly inherited cancer syndromes. All three syndromes are associated with mutations in RET , which encodes a receptor-like tyrosine kinase. The altered RET alleles were shown to be transforming genes in NIH 3T3 cells as a consequence of constitutive activation of the RET kinase. The MEN2A mutation resulted in RET dimerization at steady state, whereas the MEN2B mutation altered RET catalytic ...
