The effect of retrogression and re-aging (RRA) on the strength and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) performance was evaluated in AA7050 and AA7150 aluminum alloys. Samples from extruded profiles, at their original condition (T77511 for AA7150 and T76511 for AA7050), were solution heat treated and aged at 120 °C for 1440 min (T6 condition). After that, retrogression was performed at 200 °C for times of 5, 10, 20 and 40 min, followed by a re-aging at 120 °C for 1440 min. Hardness and electrical conductivity ...

It is important to determine the toxicity of compounds and co-solvents that are used in cell monolayer permeability studies to increase confidence in the results obtained from these in vitro experiments. This study was designed to evaluate the cytotoxicity of new nifuroxazide derivatives with potential activity against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in Caco-2 cells to select analogues for further in vitro permeability analyses. In this study, nitrofurantoin and nifuroxazide, in ...

A series of 3-acetyl-2,5-disubstituted-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives was synthesized and their activity screened in vitro against Staphylococcus aureus, Trypanosoma cruzi, and Candida albicans. The bioactivity was expressed as minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for S. aureus strains, and as fifty-percent inhibitory concentration (IC(50)) of parasite population growth for T. cruzi. A molecular modeling approach was performed to establish qualitative relationships regarding the biological ...

The effects of various dietary protein levels on growth performance, whole body composition and nutrient utilization were studied in two-banded sea bream (Diplodus vulgaris), a candidate species for aquaculture. Fish (initial weight 6.1 g) were fed to satiety six iso-energetic diets, containing 5%, 12.5%, 25%, 35%, 45% or 55% of crude protein during 72 days. Fish fed 35% and 45% protein attained better growth and feed utilization than the other groups (P < 0.05). Daily growth index and feed conversion ...

The thermodynamic variable pressure has been studied for a long time by a broad spectrum of disciplines but the effects of pressure per se on living organisms have proven to be much more difficult to study. The main difficulty is to dissociate the effects of pressure from those of the partial pressure of the gases in air-breathing animals. However, in fish and other aquatic organisms that difficulty does not exist (Fenn, 1967).The main problem with long-term exposure to high hydrostatic pressures is ...

The use of antioxidants is the most effective means to protect the organism against cellular damage caused by oxidative stress. In this context, organotellurides have been described as promising antioxidant agents for decades. Herein, a series of N-functionalized organotellurium compounds has been tested as antioxidant and presented remarkable activities by three different in vitro chemical assays. They were able to reduce DPPH radical with IC50 values ranging from 5.08 to 19.20 µg mL−1, and some ...

Alkylation or arylation of selenide or diselenide anions is a well-established method to obtain organoselenium compounds. Nevertheless, detecting inorganic selenium anions using 77Se NMR is still a challenge. In a previous work, alkylation of Na2Se was found sometimes to yield a mixture of organyl selenides/diselenides in variable amounts. In the literature, this mixture is sometimes attributed to the oxidation of an intermediate alkyl selenol during the extraction. To understand this process, a ...
