It has been suggested that mandibular setback surgery, combined or not with maxillary advancement as a treatment alternative for patients with mandibular prognathism, can induce changes in upper airway space (UAS). Therefore, this study aimed to assess the response of the upper airway in the oropharynx region of patients with Class III skeletal pattern that underwent bimaxillary orthognathic surgery (maxillary advancement and mandibular setback) combined with mentoplasty. The sample comprised 26 cone- ...

Abstract Introduction Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a multifactorial disease characterized by episodes of partial or complete collapse during sleep of different regions of the upper airway. Surgery for OSAS evolved with the introduction of different techniques, considering new surgical concept of reconstruction of the upper airway. Objective To retrospectively evaluate the effectiveness of a new approach aimed at reducing pharyngeal collapse by combining two surgical techniques: lateral ...

Low-cost sensors to detect cancer biomarkers with high sensitivity and selectivity are essential for early diagnosis. Herein, an immunosensor was developed to detect the cancer biomarker p53 antigen in MCF7 lysates using electrical impedance spectroscopy. Interdigitated electrodes were screen printed on bacterial nanocellulose substrates, then coated with a matrix of layer-by-layer films of chitosan and chondroitin sulfate onto which a layer of anti-p53 antibodies was adsorbed. The immunosensing ...

Immune hyperactivity is an important contributing factor to the morbidity and mortality of COVID-19 infection. Nasal administration of anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody downregulates hyperactive immune responses in animal models of autoimmunity through its immunomodulatory properties. We performed a randomized pilot study of fully-human nasal anti-CD3 (Foralumab) in patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 to determine if its immunomodulatory properties had ameliorating effects on disease.Thirty-nine outpatients ...

Requirements Engineering (RE) has received much attention in research and practice due to its importance to software project success. Its interdisciplinary nature, the dependency to the customer, and its inherent uncertainty still render the discipline difficult to investigate. This results in a lack of empirical data. These are necessary, however, to demonstrate which practically relevant RE problems exist and to what extent they matter. Motivated by this situation, we initiated the Naming the Pain ...

Requirements Engineering (RE) has established itself as a software engineering discipline during the past decades. While researchers have been investigating the RE discipline with a plethora of empirical studies, attempts to systematically derive an empirically-based theory in context of the RE discipline have just recently been started. However, such a theory is needed if we are to define and motivate guidance in performing high quality RE research and practice. We aim at providing an empirical ...

Turner syndrome (TS) patients have an increased risk of weight gain and metabolic syndrome. To date, it is unknown what factors are involved in this metabolic process, even though it is recognized that TS patients are frequently born small-for-gestational age. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between lipid and glucose profiles with being overweight and birth weight and length in TS patients. This was a cross-sectional study.Serum glucose, insulin (HOMA-IR), total cholesterol, and ...

The evolution of cloud computing (CC) over the past few years is certainly one of the greatest advancements in the history of computing. However, for this technology to reach its potential there must be a clear understanding of the issues involved in its adoption. The purpose of this exploratory case study is to build an evaluation model that takes into account aspects such as the advantages, challenges and obstacles of adopting CC. To assess the feasibility and usefulness of such model, an Academic ...

As part of the Naming the Pain in Requirements Engineering (NaPiRE) initiative, researchers compared problems that companies in Brazil and Germany encountered during requirements engineering (RE). The key takeaway was that in RE, human interaction is necessary for eliciting and specifying high-quality requirements, regardless of country, project type, or company size.

Cognitive impairments are a prevalent consequence of acquired brain injury, dementia, and age-related cognitive decline, hampering individuals' daily functioning and independence, with significant societal and economic implications. While neurorehabilitation represents a promising avenue for addressing these deficits, traditional rehabilitation approaches face notable limitations. First, they lack adaptability, offering one-size-fits-all solutions that may not effectively meet each patient's unique ...

Abstract Context Previous work has shown that one can explore code comments to detect Self-Admitted Technical Debt (SATD) using a contextualized vocabulary. However, current detection strategies still return a large number of false positives items. Moreover, those strategies do not allow the automatic identification of the type of debt of the identified items. Objective This work applies, evaluates, and improves a set of contextualized patterns we built to detect self-admitted technical debt using ...

São Paulo, a densely inhabited state in southeast Brazil that contains the fourth most populated city in the world, recently experienced its largest yellow fever virus (YFV) outbreak in decades. YFV does not normally circulate extensively in São Paulo, so most people were unvaccinated when the outbreak began. Surveillance in non-human primates (NHPs) is important for determining the magnitude and geographic extent of an epizootic, thereby helping to evaluate the risk of YFV spillover to humans. Data ...

In order to effectively manage technical debt (TD), a set of indicators has been used by automated approaches to identify TD items. However, some debt items may not be directly identified using only metrics collected from the source code. CVM-TD is a model to support the identification of technical debt by considering the developer point of view when identifying TD through code comment analysis. In this paper, we investigate the use of CVM-TD with the purpose of characterizing factors that affect ...

Abstract Episodic memory decline is a major signature of both normal and pathological aging. Many neural regions have been implicated in the processes subserving both episodic memory and typical aging decline. Here, we demonstrate that the cerebellum is causally involved episodic memory under aging. We show that a 12-day neurostimulation program delivered to the right cerebellum led to improvements in episodic memory performance under healthy aging that long outlast the stimulation period — healthy ...

In recent years, the software production industry has experienced significant changes largely caused by extensive growth of globalisation, outsourcing, and competitive pressure. With these changes, risks in the software supply chain (SSC) have become a growing concern. Such risks include product tampering during development or delivery, potential compromises in quality and assurance due to software defects, production delays, and increased production costs. In this context, this study is aimed at ...
