Abstract Little information is available on the evolution of erythropoiesis after interruption of recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEpo) therapy. Iron-overloaded rats received 20 daily injections of rHuEpo. During treatment, reticulocytes, soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR), and hematocrit increased progressively. This was accompanied by a substantial expansion of spleen erythropoiesis but a decrease in the bone marrow. Five weeks after treatment, rats developed a significant degree of aregenerative ...

Abstract Quantifying the genetic correlation between cancers can provide important insights into the mechanisms driving cancer etiology. Using genome-wide association study summary statistics across six cancer types based on a total of 296,215 cases and 301,319 controls of European ancestry, here we estimate the pair-wise genetic correlations between breast, colorectal, head/neck, lung, ovary and prostate cancer, and between cancers and 38 other diseases. We observed statistically significant genetic ...

The solid-fluid phase behaviour of mixtures is important in a variety of real situations of industrial interest, including paraffin precipitation from hydrocarbon reservoir fluids, supercritical extraction or precipitation processes, and cryogenic processes amongst others. In the case of binary mixtures with the presence of fluid and solid phases, such behaviors can yield different topologies in terms of critical lines, three-phase lines, critical end points and quadruple points. The classification ...

Prostate cancer (PCa) is a major concern in public health, with many genetically distinct subsets. Genomic alterations in PCa are extraordinarily complex, and both germline and somatic mutations are of great importance in the development of this tumor. The aim of this review is to provide an overview of genetic changes that can occur in the development of PCa and their role in potential therapeutic approaches. Various pathways and mechanisms proposed to play major roles in PCa are described in detail ...

The present study aims to assess the possibility of describing suction using coupled Eulerian–Lagrangian approach. The water entry and subsequent exit of conical and hemispherical bodies is investigated numerically using the Finite Element simulation software Radioss. The numerical method relies on an explicit numerical scheme. An Eulerian and a Lagrangian formulation are considered for the fluid and the structure, respectively. The fluid–structure interaction is based on an immersed contact interface. ...

The lateral line system of teleosts has recently become a model system to study patterning and morphogenesis. However, its embryonic origins are still not well understood. In zebrafish, the posterior lateral line (PLL) system is formed in two waves, one that generates the embryonic line of seven to eight neuromasts and 20 afferent neurons and a second one that generates three additional lines during larval development. The embryonic line originates from a postotic placode that produces both a migrating ...

Monoclonal B-cell lymphocytosis (MBL) is defined as an asymptomatic condition characterized by the presence of less than 5,000 monoclonal B-cells per microliter and the absence of clinical signs or symptoms of a B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. Most MBL cases involve B cells presenting an identical phenotype to CLL (CLL-like MBL) with a Catovsky-Matutes score of 3 to 5 and share the same chromosomal abnormalities than CLL. Depending on the absolute B cell count, one may distinguish low-count CLL- ...

Abstract Little information is available on the evolution of hematological parameters after cessation of intensive treatment with rHuEpo. Groups of 3–5 rats were iron overloaded to avoid functional iron deficiency and received daily IV injections of 150 U rHuEpo for 20 days. During treatment, reticulocytes, soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR, a quantitative measure of total erythropoiesis) and Hct increased progressively (p

255 It has been shown that rhDnase improves lung function and reduces the incidence of pulmonary exacerbations in CF patients. However, very few data are available on the nutritional impact of rhDNase. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of rhDNase on nutritional status in CF patients during a 2-year follow-up. Patients and methods: From August 1994 to January 1995, rhDNase was started in 82 CF patients whatever their clinical condition, provided age≥5 years and forced vital capacity ( ...

Although acute myeloid leukemias (AML) are well known and are not rarely reported, in time of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, diagnosis, follow-up, and care of patients with AML can become a huge challenge for clinicians and clinical laboratory specialists, due to a lack of experience and the presence of divergences in both clinical examination and laboratory results. A 61-year-old patient in complete remission for 6 years for an AML with maturation diagnosed with trisomy 8 and treated ...

There is a growing interest for flow and image cytometry analytes permitting the simultaneous discrimination of 6-10 fluorochromes. We have derived a strategy to optimize the factors affecting the sensitivity and specificity of multiple immunofluorescence analysis. Following a spectrophotometric analysis of 14 fluorochromes conjugated to streptavidin (SA), a set of 7 spectrally separable SA- dyes and appropriate filter combinations were selected for evaluation in image cytometry. The SA-dyes were ...
