Alkylchromium and Alkylmanganese Reagents, IV. — On the Aldehyde and Cheleselective Alkylation of Organic Carbonyl Compounds with Monoalkylchromium(III) Reagents Monoalkylchromium(III) reagents, prepared in crystalline form or in solution, alkylate aldehydes but normally not ketones. Ketones with a basic group (HO, MeO, Me 2 N) in α‐ or β‐position are methylated by MeCrCl 2 (thf) 3 , allowing the highly selective («cheleselective») methylation of such ketones in the presence of normal ketones.
