Abstract Dairy foods, particularly those of bovine origin, are the predominant vehicles for delivery of probiotic bacteria. Caprine (goat) milk also possesses potential for successful delivery of probiotics, and despite its less appealing flavor in some products, the use of goat milk as a probiotic carrier has rapidly increased over the last decade. This review reports on the diversity, applicability, and potential of using probiotics to enhance the sensory properties of goat milk and goat milk‐based ...

Contamination by heavy metal ions, particularly in water resources, is a severe environmental problem. In this study, the interaction of metal ions, namely, Cadmium Cd(II), Mercury Hg(II), and Lead Pb(II), on lignin matrices was investigated based on theoretical calculations. Binding energy (ΔEBind) values proved that the Pb(II) interacted better with lignin matrices than Cd(II) or Hg(II), having energy values between −8.4 kcal mol−1 to −20.2 kcal mol−1. The Gibbs energy (ΔG) and enthalpy (ΔH) values ...

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is increasingly being used as a biomarker in early breast cancer (EBC). We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the prognostic value of ctDNA in patients with EBC treated with neoadjuvant therapy (NAT). We searched Medline, Web of Science and Embase for observational or interventional studies that included patients with EBC undergoing NAT, reported outcomes related to the predefined endpoints, and had full text articles available. Study selection ...

Abstract Rosmarinus officinalis is known for the production of volatile compounds used in medicinal and food preparations. Leaves of R. officinalis are densely covered with capitate and peltate glandular trichomes where biosynthesis of volatiles mainly occurs. This study aims to conduct a morphological assessment to identify anatomical characteristics of both leaves and trichomes, as well as a chemical analysis of leaf volatile compounds, using histochemistry and stem distillation extraction. Specifically, ...

Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is an inflammatory, demyelinating disease of the central nervous system characterized by the association of a serious myelitis and unilateral or bilateral optic neuritis. The present study aimed to analyze the immunological parameters of NMO patients with diagnosis established based on Wingerchuck et al. (1999) criteria. Production of IgG and IgA antibodies to antigens of MBP, PLP 95-116, MOG 92-106, and the cytokines interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interferon-gamma (INF-gamma) were ...

The phenylamino-pyrimidine (PAP) nucleus has been demonstrated to be useful for the development of new drugs and is present in a wide variety of antiretroviral agents and tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). This review aims to evaluate the application of PAP derivatives in drugs and other bioactive compounds. It was concluded that PAP derivatives are still worth exploring, as they may provide highly competitive ATP TKI's with nano/picomolar activity.

Abstract Sulfite oxidase (SOX) deficiency is an inherited neurometabolic disorder biochemically characterized by tissue accumulation and high urinary excretion of sulfite and thiosulfate. Affected patients present severe neurological dysfunction accompanied by seizures, whose pathophysiology is poorly known. Skeletal muscle myofibers are large and elongated cells with multiple and evenly distributed nuclei. Nuclear distribution suggests that each nucleus influences a specific compartment within the myofiber and implies a functional role for nuclear positioning. Compartmentalization of specific mRNAs and proteins has been reported at the neuromuscular and myotendinous junctions, but mRNA distribution in non-specialized regions of the myofibers remains largely unexplored. We report that the bulk of mRNAs ...

While existing categorizations recognize economic intimate partner violence as economic control, economic exploitation and employment sabotage, current measurements of economic abuse rarely capture all its forms, and the issue has not been widely explored in low- and middle-income country settings.
