Point mutations in ras genes resulting in substitutions of amino acid Gly in positions 12 and 13, and Gin in position 61 of the ras gene product p21, are commonly found In human tumors. Peptides derived from aberrant p21 may elicit a tumor specific T cell response, provided that these peptides can bind to HLA molecules of the tumor and the patient has T cells able to recognize the corresponding peptlde-HLA complex. Here we report that CD4+ T cells of memory type (CD45RO+) from a patient with a follicular ...

Abstract Activated ras carry a point mutation either in codon 12, 13 or 61 which is tumor specific. Peptides derived from this oncoprotein are therefore potential tumor antigens. Essential for the feasibility of using ras‐derived peptides in therapy of cancer is whether p21 ras‐derived peptides can be processed, bind to human histocompatibility leukocyte antigen (HLA) and be recognized by T cells. Here we report the fine specificity and HLA restriction of several T lymphocyte clones (TLC) specific ...

Anne Geddes Shalit,

In their commentary on page 360 of the April issue, Henry Miller and Gregory Conko declare that they wish to examine in more detail what they call the antiscientific basis on which the biosafety protocol was conceived. This they unfortunately fail to do.All we get is a list of epithets-deeply flawed, neologism, bogus. The precautionary principle is apparently the work of "antitechnology extremists" who wish to ban just about everything. This is, to use the authors' phrase, deeply flawed reasoning, if ...

Abstract Recent work in our laboratory has involved the use of ethylene diaminete traacetic acid as an eluant for the ion chromatographic determination of transition metals. We have continued this investigation into the use of EDTA by developing a potential method for the determination of Cr(III) and Cr(VT) in the same solution at the ppm level. The method involves the separation of the species as anions—the monovalent Cr(III)-EDTA anion and the divalent dichromate ion—followed by the detection ...

Rats suppress intake of a normally preferred 0.15% saccharin conditioned stimulus (CS) when it is paired with an aversive agent like lithium chloride (LiCl) or a preferred substance such as sucrose or a drug of abuse. The reward comparison hypothesis suggests that rats avoid intake of a saccharin cue following pairings with a drug of abuse because the rats are anticipating the availability of the rewarding properties of the drug. The present study used bilateral ibotenic acid lesions to examine the ...

There has been extensive effort to quantify the biodiversity response to climate change. Bioclimatic models are widely used to correlate species landscape distributions with macroclimate, projecting and then comparing suitable climate space at a baseline and for future climate change scenarios. This bioclimatic approach has two assumptions: 1. Species distributions are at equilibrium with, and represent direct sensitivity, to macroclimate; 2. Relationships among climate predictors remain comparable ...

T-cell immunoglobulin mucin family member 3 (Tim-3) is an immune checkpoint receptor that dampens effector functions and causes terminal exhaustion of cytotoxic T cells. Tim-3 inhibitors are under investigation in immuno-oncology (IO) trials, because blockade of T-cell-Tim-3 enhances antitumor immunity. Here, we identify an additional role for Tim-3 as a growth-suppressive receptor intrinsic to melanoma cells. Inhibition of melanoma cell-Tim-3 promoted tumor growth in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised ...
