Aims The effects of exercise training in chronic heart failure are well established, however, they have not been evaluated in Chagas cardiomyopathy (ChC). We sought to determine the effects of exercise training on functional capacity, health‐related quality of life (HQoL), and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels in patients with ChC. Methods and results This randomized, controlled, single‐blind trial included 40 patients with ChC (age 49.5 ± 7.8 years, 57.5% male) who did not practice regular exercise. ...

The six-minute walk test (6MWT) is a simple, low cost, reliable, and valid method for evaluating the functional capacity of cardiac patients. However, its early use and safety following acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is recent and has been little investigated. To evaluate and to compare the safety and the cardiac behavior of early performance of the 6MWT in patients following uncomplicated AMI up to 4 days or more than 4 days after the event. Following discharge from the Coronary Care Unit, 152 ...

Endo-oligopeptidase A (EOPA, formerly EC 3.4.22.19), a thiol-activated oligopeptidase, is able to degrade both bradykinin and neurotensin, and also to convert enkephalin-containing peptides into enkephalins. The expression of this enzyme was studied in the rat brain by in situ hybridization using non-radiotopic probes. The distribution of EOPA transcripts included many regions of the rat central nervous system, with higher expression in some regions, such as the hippocampus, cerebellum, and basal ...

Abstract : Endo‐oligopeptidase A., EC 3.4.22.19, converts small enkephalin‐containing peptides into the corresponding enkephalins in vitro. We investigated the presence of endooligopeptidase A in the retina and its possible colocalization with enkephalins in retinal neurons. The specific activity of endo‐oligopeptidase A found in pigeon retinae (30.3 ± 7.3 mU/mg, mean ± standard deviation) was four times higher than in rabbit retinae (7.0 ± 1.1 mU/mg). The enzyme activity was not modified by EDTA, but it ...

The objective of this experiment was to establish different criteria to evaluate the requirements of digestible tryptophan for broilers from 22 to 42 d of age, using different regression models (quadratic, exponential and Linear Response Plateau) and in case of statistical significance the comparison of means by Duncan test at 5% probability was also adopted. A total of 1,920 Cobb 500 male broilers were distributed in a completely randomized experimental design, with 6 treatments (6 digestible tryptophan ...

The 6-minute walk test (6MWT) is a simple and reliable method routinely used in the evaluation of many conditions including cardiac diseases. However, it is rarely performed in patients with pacemakers (PMs), and the applicability and safety in this group is not established. The purpose of this study was to verify the applicability and safety of the 6MWT in the evaluation of functional capacity of patients with PMs, considering the ergometry test (ET) as the criterion standard.Twenty-four patients ...

In this study, we evaluated the larvicidal and cytotoxic effect of squamocin from Annona squamosa on Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) midgut. The compound was solubilized in 2% Tween 20 at 10, 20, 50, 80 and 100 ppm. The assay was conducted in a completely randomized design with four replications, each with 20 third-instar larvae.
