The overexploitation of the Alto Guadalentı́n detrital aquifer has led to an unusually high gas content in the waters, which is released as the hydrostatic charge decreases. The predominant gas proved to be CO2. Isotopic studies show that δ18O values are in the range −8.8 to −6.5‰ SMOW, δD ranges between −45 and −40‰ SMOW, excess deuterium lies between +8.0 and +27.4, and δ13C values lie between −8.1 and −3.8‰ PDB. This reveals that there is an enrichment in 18O as well as mixing processes between meteoric ...

Abstract The southeast of the Betic Cordilleras has long been recognized as an area with numerous geothermal anomalies of regional character. Many thermal springs appear related to currently tectonically active fault systems. Carbon dioxide and other gases in these waters have been mobilized through those fault systems. The great depth of these "slip-strike zones" affects the entire thickness of the lithosphere and leads to contrasting crustal domains of different natures and structures. In this ...

The hydrochemical study of Alto Guadalentı́n aquifer shows an unusually high bicarbonate content between 15 to 35 mmol l−1 and PCO2 between 0.044 to 1.289 bars and, in accordance with electric geophysical data, he is in relation with horst areas. The waters have temperatures between 19 to 32°C and conductivity between 1087 and 6810 μS cm−1 (which increased in zones with high exploitation) and are fundamentally sulphate and chloride types. Chemical equilibrium modelling shows that the waters are oversaturated ...

The work studies to what extent a light or high level of negligence impacts negatively on the psychological development of a group of children. The sample was constituted by 57 subjects with an age range of 8 to 13 years. Tests, the teacher's evaluation and class partners' evaluation were used. The results demonstrated that the subjects that had suffered a high level of family negligence manifested more problems that the other group.

Malaria parasite transmission-blocking control strategies within the mosquito vector require an adequate understanding of the parasite mosquito interaction at the molecular level. The ookinete P25-P28 surface proteins are required for the transition from ookinete to oocyst in the mosquito midgut; however, their respective molecular interactions in the mosquito are largely unknown. We used recombinant Pvs25 and Pvs28 as probes for identification of potential Anopheles albimanus midgut ligands. A ...

Abstract Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a recognized risk factor for the development of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Our objectives were to compare the urinary albumin–creatinine ratio (UACR) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of patients with DKD according to OSA severity, and to evaluate the contribution of sleep parameters to their renal function. In a multicenter, observational, cross-sectional study, 214 patients with DKD were recruited. After a sleep study, UACR and eGFR were ...

The de-novo synthesis of soluble or solid-supported Pd-(CaCO3)n clusters (n = 2–13) and their high catalytic activity for the semi-hydrogenation of internal alkynes compared to terminal alkynes, is presented. Mechanistic studies show that this reactivity, i.e. internal alkynes more reactive than terminal alkynes, comes from the higher electrophilicity of the Pd-(CaCO3)n cluster compared to the nanoparticulated Lindlar catalyst, which unveils the advantages of isolating the minimum catalytic unit of ...

Abstract The carbonyl–olefin metathesis reaction has experienced significant advances in the last seven years with new catalysts and reaction protocols. However, most of these procedures involve soluble catalysts for intramolecular reactions in batch. Herein, we show that recoverable, inexpensive, easy to handle, non‐toxic, and widely available simple solid acids, such as the aluminosilicate montmorillonite, can catalyze the intermolecular carbonyl–olefin metathesis of aromatic ketones and aldehydes ...

The family of calgranulins includes S100A8 (calgranulin A), S100A9 (calgranulin B), which can appear as a heterodimer known as S100A8/A9 or calprotectin, and S100A12 (calgranulin C). These proteins are related to different inflammatory conditions, immune-mediated diseases, and sepsis and are considered biomarkers of potential interest. This study aims to evaluate if S100A8/A9 and A12 could change in pigs with diarrhea due to E. coli and to compare the changes of S100A8/A9 and A12 with other analytes ...

Trace metal concentrations in PM10 were measured in an urban–industrial site in León, Mexico in three different seasons. PM10 were collected in quartz fiber filters of 47 mm diameter using low volume equipment operating with a controlled flow of 5 L min−1 over 24 h. Mass concentrations were gravimetrically determined and it was found that PM10 samples showed values in excess of the Mexican standard and the established values by WHO during cold dry and warm dry seasons. The ability of the tetragonal prismatic nanocapsule 1·(BArF)8 to selectively encapsulate U-based C78 EMFs from a soot mixture is reported, showing enhanced affinity for C78-based EMFs over C80-based EMFs. In addition, DFT analysis points towards an enhanced breathing adaptability of nanocapsule ...
