Robots are increasingly becoming key players in human-robot teams. To become effective teammates, robots must possess profound understanding of an environment, be able to reason about the desired commands and goals within a specific context, and be able to communicate with human teammates in a clear and natural way. To address these challenges, we have developed an intelligence architecture that combines cognitive components to carry out high-level cognitive tasks, semantic perception to label regions ...

ABSTRACT Alternaria brassicicola causes dark spot (or black spot) disease, which is one of the most common and destructive fungal diseases of Brassicaceae spp. worldwide. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of strain Abra43. The assembly comprises 29 scaffolds, with an N 50 value of 2.1 Mb. The assembled genome was 31,036,461 bp in length, with a G+C content of 50.85%.

With recent advances in robotics technologies and autonomous systems, the idea of human-robot teams is gaining ever-increasing attention. In this context, our research focuses on developing an intelligent robot that can autonomously perform non-trivial, but specific tasks conveyed through natural language. Toward this goal, a consortium of researchers develop and integrate various types of intelligence into mobile robot platforms, including cognitive abilities to reason about high-level missions, ...

In the extreme environments posed by war fighting, fire fighting, and nuclear accident response, the cost of direct human exposure is levied in terms of injury and death. Robotic alternatives must address effective operations while removing humans from danger. This is profoundly challenging, as extreme environments inflict cumulative performance damage on exposed robotic agents. Sensing and perception are among the most vulnerable components. We present a distributed robotic system that enables ...

Cyclobutadiene is a well-known playground for theoretical chemists and is particularly suitable to test ground- and excited-state methods. Indeed, due to its high spatial symmetry, especially at the D4h square geometry but also in the D2h rectangular arrangement, the ground and excited states of cyclobutadiene exhibit multiconfigurational characters and single-reference methods, such as standard adiabatic time-dependent density-functional theory (TD-DFT) or standard equation-of-motion coupled cluster ( ...

Following our previous work focussing on compounds containing up to 3 non-hydrogen atoms [\emph{J. Chem. Theory Comput.} {\bfseries 14} (2018) 4360--4379], we present here highly-accurate vertical transition energies obtained for 27 molecules encompassing 4, 5, and 6 non-hydrogen atoms. To obtain these energies, we use equation-of-motion coupled cluster theory up to the highest technically possible excitation order for these systems (CC3, EOM-CCSDT, and EOM-CCSDTQ), selected configuration interaction ( ...

Excited states exhibiting double excitation character are notoriously difficult to model using conventional single-reference methods, such as adiabatic time-dependent density-functional theory (TD-DFT) or equation-of-motion coupled cluster (EOM-CC). In the present work, we provide accurate reference excitation energies for transitions involving a substantial amount of double excitation using a series of increasingly large diffuse-containing atomic basis sets. Our set gathers 20 vertical transitions ...

Background Calcium antagonists are widely prescribed for angina pectoris but their effect on clinical outcome is controversial. We aimed to investigate the effect of the calcium antagonist nifedipine on long-term outcome in patients with stable angina pectoris. Methods We randomly assigned 3825 patients with treated stable symptomatic coronary disease to double-blind addition of nifedipine GITS (gastrointestinal therapeutic system) 60 mg once daily and 3840 to placebo. Terrain map building is an essential component of a planning autonomous navigator. External terrain must be represented in a manner that is convenient for the path planning subsystem to use, and that is useful for fine tuning the position estimate. This work is concerned with the solution of the particular problems encountered when attempting high speed navigation of an autonomous vehicle on rough terrain. These problems include the requisite longer downrange field of view, the range shadow problem, ...

Abstract. The atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) defines the volume of air adjacent to the Earth's surface for the dilution of heat, moisture, and trace substances. Quantitative knowledge on the temporal and spatial variations in the heights of the ABL and its sub-layers is still scarce, despite their importance for a series of applications (including, for example, air quality, numerical weather prediction, greenhouse gas assessment, and renewable energy production). Thanks to recent advances in ground- ...

In antagonistic encounters, the primary decision to be made is to fight or not. Animals may then possess adaptations to assess fighting ability in their opponents. Previous studies suggest that humans can assess strength and fighting ability based on facial appearance. Here we extend these findings to specific contests by examining the perception of male faces from paired winners and losers of individual fights in mixed martial arts sporting competitions.
