Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) has been reported to be as distressful as or worse than postoperative pain for surgical patients, and is known as one of the perioperative problems called the Big Little Problem. 水中のクリプトスポリジウム・ジアルジア検査における遺伝子検査法の実用性を検討するため, 国内30箇所の浄水場から水道原水を採取し, 顕微鏡観察法および遺伝子検査法を用いてこれらの原虫を検査し, 検出結果を比較した. 遺伝子検査法としてRT-qPCR法を用いた場合, 顕微鏡観察法と同程度の検出率で原虫が検出されたが, 一部の試料ではクリプトスポリジウムの検出濃度が顕微鏡観察法に比べ極端に低くなることもあった. また, 遺伝子検査法により, 水道原水中に存在する原虫の種・遺伝子型が多様であることが明らかとなり, その多くがヒトに感染する可能性のあるものであった. さらに, 遺伝子検査法によって検出された種・遺伝子型によっては, 水源における汚染源の推測も可能であることがわかった.
