The preparations of 1,4,7-(NHPhSiMe(2))(3)-1,4,7-triazacyclononane (H(3)N(3)-tacn) and its lithium and sodium derivatives are described. The X-ray structure of the THF adduct of the lithium derivative, Li(3)N(3)-tacn(THF)(2), shows that one of the macrocycle pendant arms is bent to allow the coordination of the its lithium ion to two tacn amines. Phytochemical survey of the Me2CO extracts of the whole dried plant Euphorbia portlandica led to the isolation of a new pentacyclic triterpene alcohol, with the lupane skeleton, named lupeportlandol. The synthesis of the first tungsten azametallocene complexes with pyrrolyl ligands, [W(NC4Me4)2L2], is reported. The dichloro complex (L=Cl) was obtained from the reaction of WCl4DME (DME=1,2-dimethoxyethane) with Li(NC4Me4) in poor yield (6.5%). From the Me2CO extract of the whole plant of Euphorbia boetica a new tetracyclic diterpene was isolated. Its structure was established based on NMR spectroscopic data obtained using a combination of one- and two-dimensional techniques. We reveal the stellar light emerging from the kiloparsec-scale, ring-like structure of the NGC5128 (Centaurus A) galaxy in unprecedented detail. We use arcsecond-scale resolution near infrared images to create a "dust-free" view of the central region of the galaxy, which we then use to quantify the shape of the revealed structure.
