Past mining and smelting of arsenical and associated metalliferous ores in South-west England has led to widespread contamination of soils and surface drainage. The regional distribution of arsenic in both sediments and waters of tributary drainage shows anomalies in those areas underlain by mineralised granites and their metamorphic aureoles.
