The human umbilical cord Wharton's Jelly- and the bone marrow- mesenchymal stem cells (WJ-MSCs and BM-MSCs, respectively) and the newly identified dental pulp pluripotent-like stem cells (DPPSCs) are new sources for stem cells with prospective use in cell regeneration and therapy. These cells are self-renewable, can be differentiated into several lineages, and can potentiate the immune responses. We hypothesized that three-dimensional (3D) culture conditions and directed differentiation using specific ...

Vascularization of large bone grafts is one of the main challenges that limit the clinical application of bone tissue engineering (BTE). In this way, cell cocultures, which involve the cross-talk between endothelial and osteogenic cells, have shown to be an effective strategy for in vitro prevascularization. Dental pulp represents an easily accessible autologous source of adult stem cells. A subset of these cells, named dental pulp pluripotent-like stem cells (DPPSCs), shows high plasticity and great ...

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is the most common autoimmune thyroid disease that may lead to hypothyroidism due to progressive destruction of the thyroid. The etiology of HT is unclear. However, it is associated with multiple genetic predispositions. Consanguinity has been associated with an increased susceptibility to different inherited conditions. This study investigated the association between consanguinity and risk of HT for the first time.Using a case-control study design, 298 HT patients were ...

Summary: This program is a simulation that allows the user to become an emperor of a small developing country in Southeast Asia. It is based loosely on the history of South Vietnam but it could also apply in a general way to other developing countries that are threatened by a communist takeover. The user makes decisions as an emperor of the country and how these decisions are made determines the outcome, whether you live and your country becomes a democracy or whether you die. ANNAM was reviewed ...
