Recently, Blockchain technology has been the focus of large research efforts spanning several application domains. Use of Blockchain has been proposed in wireless networks as well. In this paper an overview will be presented of the existing literature about the application of Blockchain in wireless access networks. Then, focus will be put on two distinct uses of Blockchain: i) application of Blockchain for providing anonymous access control to wireless access networks; ii) exploitation of the proof- ...

T regulatory cells (Tregs) play a key role in modulating T cell responses. Clinical trials showed that Tregs modulate graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). However, their ability to mediate anti-leukemic activity (graft-versus-leukemia [GvL]) is largely unknown. Enforced interleukin-10 (IL-10) expression converts human CD4+ T cells into T regulatory type 1 (Tr1)-like (CD4IL-10) cells that suppress effector T cells in vitro and xenoGvHD in ...

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious global health problem. In Italy, to limit the infections, the government ordered lockdown from March 2020. This measure, designed to contain the virus, led to serious limitations on the daily life of the individuals it affected, and in particular in the limitation of physical exercise. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of reduced physical activity on the lipid profile in patients with high cardiovascular risk. Methods: We enrolled 38 ...

In patients at 6 to 12 days after uncomplicated myocardial infarction, we observed a low incidence of serotonin-induced occlusive coronary artery spasm (11%) in the IRAs, and no spasm in the non-IRAs, but a significantly greater coronary vasoconstrictor response in the distal segment of the IRA than that observed in the non-IRA.

The role of oxidised low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) in plaque destabilisation is controversial; therefore we aimed at comparing plaque and plasma ox-LDL content in stable and unstable ischaemic syndromes. We also assessed the correlation between plaque or plasma ox-LDL and angiographic complex stenosis morphology.Ten consecutive patients with chronic stable angina (SA) and 10 consecutive patients with unstable angina (UA) were studied. Plaque sections obtained by directional coronary atherectomy ...

We evaluated the incidence of and predisposing factors for an incisional hernia after kidney transplantation. Numerous techniques have been used to repair postoperative fascial dehiscences or simple incisional hernias, but no clear treatment exists for giant hernias. Our aim was to obtain (1) a safe procedure to repair a large abdominal defect and reinforce the surrounding, fragile zones and (2) a simple, rapid technique to reduce the operative time. Herein we have described the surgical repair of ...

Objectives. We sought to investigate the effects of revascularization on the contractile reserve of dysfunctional myocardium. Background. The improvement in dysfunctional but viable myocardium after revascularization is frequently less than expected from the amount of contractile reserve detected on dobutamine stress echocardiography. The fate of the contractile reserve, when it does not result in an adequate contractile recovery, is unknown. Methods. Basal contraction and contractile reserve of ...

Objective. We evaluated dobutamine stress electrocardiography for detecting potentially reversible contractile dysfunction or residual ischemia in the infarct-related area. Background. ST-T segment changes in pathologic Q wave leads during stress testing may reflect contractile reserve, inducible ischemia or passive mechanical stretching. Dobutamine echocardiography allows detection of contractile reserve at low doses and inducible ischemia at high doses. Methods. We used low (5 to 10 μg/kg body ...

The aim of this work was to demonstrate a greater number of viable cells using a micro-surgical in-situ perfusion to collect rat pancreata compared with the pancreas after exsanguination. We used 3 groups of 20 rats. Perfusion was performed by selective cannulation of the left common iliac artery with administration of UW solution at 4 degrees C. Collected pancreata were digested and cells separated by Ficoll gradient were placed in culture to permit adhesion to dishes. Cells were characterized ...

Engineered T cells expressing a tumor antigen specific T cell receptor (TCR) have shown promise for cancer immunotherapy. However, the introduced TCR chains can pair with the endogenous TCR chains in T cells, and in mice, these mismatched TCRs can cause a lethal autoimmune reaction. Provasi et al. now show that they can eliminate expression of the endogenous TCR chains using zinc finger nucleases and express only the desired exogenous TCR by lentiviral transduction. The resultant TCR-edited lymphocytes ...

However, complete exploitation of this approach is limited by technical and safety issues, ...

Major hurdles limiting adoptive T cell therapy relate to toxicity (i.e. graft-versus-host disease-GvHD ...
