A method to analyze the flow around horizontal axis wind turbines based on the lifting line theory is presented. A non-linear vortex wake alignment scheme is proposed. The wake is discretized in straight line vortices. The velocity induced by the vortex system is computed in multiple sections downstream of the rotor plane. The effect of the radial velocity component is neglected and, therefore, the orientation of each straight line vortex is only given by the axial and tangential velocity components. ...

This paper discusses several modelling aspects that are important for the performance predictions of a ducted propulsor with a low-order Panel Method. The aspects discussed are the alignment of the wake geometry, the influence of the duct boundary layer on the wake pitch, and the influence of a transpiration velocity through the gap. The analysis is carried out for propeller Ka4-70 operating without and inside a modified duct 19A, in which the rounded trailing edge is replaced by a sharp trailing ...

A low order potential based panel code is used to analyze the flow around the blades of a horizontal axis marine current turbine. An empirical vortex model is assumed for the turbine wake, which includes the variation of pitch of the helicoidal vortices trailing behind the blades. The analysis is carried out for uniform inflow conditions in steady flow for a turbine with controllable pitch for two different pitch settings in a wide range of tip-speed-ratios. Grid convergence studies carried out ...

Strategic polyoxometalate Keggin-type structural modification was performed to increase the oxidative catalytic performance to desulfurize model and real diesels. The most active lacunar structure [PW11O39]7− (PW11) showed to complete desulfurize a simulated diesel after 60 min at 70 °C. Its application as homogeneous catalyst using a biphasic system 1:1 diesel/acetonitrile needed to use an excess of oxidant (ratio H2O2/S = 8). The immobilization of the PW11 on amine-functionalized SBA-15 supports originated ...

A ZnSe alloy was prepared by mechanical alloying and annealing at 520 °C for 6 h. Samples were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The as-milled alloy had a dark brown color, which turned to the yellow color characteristic of commercial ZnSe products after annealing. After 10 h of milling the alloy exhibited a zincblende structure. The DSC spectrum showed a broad exothermic band related to structural relaxation and an incomplete endothermic peak associated ...

The Keggin phosphotungstate (PW12) and its zinc derivative (PW11Zn) were tested as oxidative catalysts for desulfurization processes using simulated and real diesels. These compounds were used as homogeneous catalysts, while the corresponding SBA-15 composites were used as heterogeneous catalysts. The comparison of their catalytic performance demonstrated that the zinc-substituted polyoxometalate is more efficient than the plenary PW12 structure. Additionally, using the heterogeneous PW11Zn@aptesSBA- ...
