Glial scar formation is one of the major consequences of spinal cord injury, which prevents the regenerated axons passing the injured area and forming effective synaptic connection. In this paper, we used photodynamic therapy (PDT), which was mediated by the upconversion nanoparticles coated with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and photosensitizer (UCNPs-PEGM540), to reduce the glial scar formation after spinal cord injury. The in vitro experimental results indicated that cultured astrocytes could be killed ...

In this paper, using thermodynamic formalism for the sub-additive potential, upper bounds for the Hausdorff dimension and the box dimension of non-conformal repellers are obtained as the sub-additive Bowen equation. The map $f$ only needs to be $C^1$, without additional conditions. We also prove that all the upper bounds for the Hausdorff dimension obtained in earlier papers coincide. This unifies their results. Furthermore we define an average conformal repeller and prove that the dimension of an ...

This study investigates the complexity of the global set of output patterns for one-dimensional multi-layer cellular neural networks with input. Applying labeling to the output space produces a sofic shift space. Two invariants, namely spatial entropy and dynamical zeta function, can be exactly computed by studying the induced sofic shift space. This study gives sofic shift a realization through a realistic model. Furthermore, a new phenomenon, the broken of symmetry of entropy, is discovered in ...

Patterns generation problems in two-dimensional lattice models are studied.Let S be the set of p symbols and Z 2ℓ×2ℓ , ℓ ≥ 1, be a fixed finite square sublattice of Z 2 .Function U : Z 2ℓ×2ℓ → S is called local pattern.Given a basic set B of local patterns, a unique transition matrix A 2 which is a q 2 × q 2 matrix, q = p ℓ 2 , can be defined.The recursive formulae of higher transition matrix An on Z 2ℓ×nℓ have already been derived [4].Now A m n , m ≥ 1, contains all admissible patterns on Z (m+1)ℓ×nℓ which can be generated ...

Let Y⊆{−1,1}Z∞×n be the mosaic solution space of an n-layer cellular neural network. We decouple Y into n subspaces, say Y(1),Y(2),…,Y(n), and give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of factor maps between them. In such a case, Y(i) is a sofic shift for 1⩽i⩽n. This investigation is equivalent to study the existence of factor maps between two sofic shifts. Moreover, we investigate whether Y(i) and Y(j) are topological conjugate, strongly shift equivalent, shift equivalent, or ...

Functions $U:\mathbf Z^d\rightarrow \mathcal S$ and$U_N:\mathbf Z_N\rightarrow \mathcal S$ are called a globalpattern and a local pattern on $\mathbf Z_N$, respectively. Weintroduce an ordering matrix $\mathbf X_N$ for $\ ...

In this paper, we show a handy approximate approach to provide a lower bound of the Hausdorff dimension of a given subset in [0,1) related to β-transformation dynamical system. Here approximation means from special class with β-shift satisfying the specification property or being subshift of finite type to general β>1. As an application, we obtain the multifractal spectra for the recurrence rate of the first return time of β-transformation, including the cases returning to the ball and cylinder.

This manuscript considers the learning problem of multi-layer neural networks (MNNs) with an activation function which comes from cellular neural networks. A systematic investigation of the partition of the parameter space is provided. Furthermore, the recursive formula of the transition matrix of an MNN is obtained. By implementing the well-developed tools in the symbolic dynamical systems, the topological entropy of an MNN can be computed explicitly. A novel phenomenon, the asymmetry of a topological ...

Abstract The University of Science and Technology of China sodium temperature/wind lidar observed a strong zonal wind shear (~60 m/s/km) near 98 km between 1315 and 1330 UT on 29 July 2013 and a cooling near 96–100 km (above a warming near 90–95 km) between 1330 and 1430 UT. This suggests a possible gravity wave (GW) breaking event. Comparison of the lidar results with observations from a nearby meteor radar and with satellite results indicated that the GW likely broke down over a large horizontal area. ...

Topological behavior, such as chaos, irreducibility, and mixing of a one-sided shift of finite type, is well elucidated. Meanwhile, the investigation of multidimensional shifts, for instance, textile systems, is difficult and only a few results have been obtained so far. This paper studies shifts defined on infinite trees, which are called tree-shifts. Infinite trees have a natural structure of one-sided symbolic dynamical systems equipped with multiple shift maps and constitute an intermediate ...

This paper studies the entropy of tree-shifts of finite type with and without boundary conditions. We demonstrate that computing the entropy of a tree-shift of finite type is equivalent to solving a system of nonlinear recurrence equations. Furthermore, the entropy of the binary Markov tree-shifts over two symbols is either 0 or . Meanwhile, the realization of a class of reals including multinacci numbers is elaborated, which indicates that tree-shifts are capable of rich phenomena. By considering ...

The uncertainty of multidimensional shift spaces draws attracted attention of researchers. For example, the emptiness problem is undecidable; there exist aperiodic shifts of finite type; there is a nonempty shift of finite type exhibiting nonextensible local patterns. Beyond that, with introducing block gluing tree-shift, a sufficient condition of exhibiting positive topological ...

Abstract Electronic DNA‐biosensor with a single nucleotide resolution capability is highly desirable for personalized medicine. However, existing DNA‐biosensors, especially single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) detection systems, have poor sensitivity and specificity and lack real‐time wireless data transmission. DNA‐tweezers with graphene field effect transistor (FET) are used for SNP detection and data are transmitted wirelessly for analysis. Picomolar sensitivity of quantitative SNP detection is ...

The present study used 16 multiparous lactating Saanen dairy goats (body weight, 41.80 ± 2.92 kg; mean ± standard deviation) with healthy and symmetrical udders. Goats were divided into 2 blocks of 8 goats based on milk yield averaged from 75 d in milk in a randomized completed block design. The 2 study groups were the control (CSSS), in which goats were fed sticky corn stover silage, and the treatment (TPSS), in which goats were fed anthocyanin-rich purple corn (Zea mays L.) stover silage (PSS). The results ...
